Do you think Ferrari dealers take the time to do a through inspection on CPO cars as advertised? Or do you think they just fill out the CPO inspection sheet?

I hope they take it seriously, I just bought a CPO car. They gave me the records and they did a lot work, nothing major, to bring it to CPO specs.

It is no different than any other business. There are good dealers and bad dealers. The yellow sign on the wall conveys no special degree of professional or ethical behavior.

    Caveat emptor.

I don't know about F-cars , but with other marques, the value in the CPO is the extended warranty.

otherwise you should approach it as any other used car and buyer beware.

The assumption is that a warranteed car is in better shape.

My 430 was a CPO car with Power Train Warranty. The Ferrari dealer found several things that had to be fixed ahead of time to meet the specifications. Thus, the process works to some degree. I guess all dealers are a bit different but I'm sure if they certify garbage that Ferrari has to pay a claim on then they could risk issues. The things that were fixed on my car were not even covered by the Power Train Warranty so that made me feel even better.

And, to go further, the whole thing depends primarily on the ethics of the dealer, and quite secondarily on the competence of the particular technician they have doing the CPO inspection.

The primary aspects of ethics comes in when something comes up after the sale which the inspection SHOULD have but did not discover.

So, you could say that a really great inspecting technician can cover up somewhat for a really bad (ethically) dealership - by finding everything before the dealer is required to stand up for issues.

But then, how many really great technicians are going to stay very long at a really bad dealership?

My last CPO car had tons wrong with it. Cosmetically it was near perfect (oh, except for that undisclosed respray - no wonder the passenger door was a bit finicky.)

My last inspected and "New Power" warranty car came with a non working stereo, a crease in the passenger door, and several lightly damaged interior pieces (seems to always happen when a stereo installer gets to work.)

My CPO had all the check marks lined up perfectly along with some very obvious things that needed replacement.....
Gas cap, alarm module, remotes, corner light inoperative and not jacked in, old tires etc.
I found all of these items myself after their useless CPO. They promised to fix it all, then ship me my car when complete. Well what do you know, the car arrives with NOTHING done!
That dealer will never get another penny of mine, or my friends / family as well!!

Some do. Some don't. Sometimes it just depends on the actual personnel at the dealership. So you have to treat it like you are buying a car from any used car dealer- not a Ferrari dealer. The simple fact of the matter is many of these dealerships have more financial pressure than you might imagine.

    Very good advice!
That's where I went wrong. I had too much trust.
I made some poor assumptions such as:
I had a great experience at my Lexus dealer, I had a great experience at my Porsche dealer, so surely Ferrari will be twice as good as those since the cars cost twice as much.
Very bad assumptions :( Lesson learned
