When air (be it from the a/c or not) flows through my vents and hits the windshield it leaves a nasty film an "fogs" the window. Anyone? Thanks!

What is the car? The air filter has nothing to do with the AC vents, unless your car has a separate air intake filter for the cabin. Most older cars don't. The "air filter" only filters air going into the engine, not into the passenger compartment. In any event, some cars have a known problem of causing a buildup of film on the windshield when the ventilation system is running. Apparently, some Ferraris have this problem. Not much you can do to prevent it. Two suggestions -- (1) try one of the interior anti-fog coatings (I think Rain-X makes one), and (2) keep some paper towels and a bottle of Windex handy.

I hate to mention this (because the fix probably isn't easy on a 348), but, if the AC heater core has an engine coolant leak, this will introduce an (oily) coolant mist/film into the airstream entering the passenger cabin. Similarly, if the AC condensation drain is plugged, you could have a wet "puddle" somewhere inside the AC system that gets picked up by the incoming air flow (but your description of "nasty" makes me think coolant rather than water :().

I do have a 348. I think I over-exaggerated the "nastiness" of the film. It's a very thin hazy film that coats the windshield if any air (via A/C or not) comes throught the vents right by the windshield. The A/C works fine by the way, and keeps the car quite cool when in use. I've been wiping it off with a paper towel and it solves the problem quite easily. Also...when I turn on the AC little black residue particles come flying out through the vents for the first 1-2 seconds and then it stops. Almost like nobody ever used the A/C before and it's just got dust and crap in it? Thanks for the help....

Alas, not familiar with the 348, though in the 308 here there is an air filter on each (two total, one driver side, the other on passenger side) just in front of the heater cores. In the 308 you remove the black fiberglass part under the hood that is below the spare tire. To the right and left side of the car are two square boxes. Each one of those has an air filter that needs to be replaced.

Went to Home Depot and bought "The Web -- Electrostatic Replacement Pad" (UPC 21404 00003). This is thicker and better than stock IMHO and you can cut to size MANY replacement filters from a single bag of The Web :)
