On new Porsches ad BMWs, if the pads wear out, the rotors also wear out. Their minimum thickness is such that it is not worth machining the rotors. You just replace them if they have a "lip" at the edge. On many other cars, the cost of after market rotors are so cheap ($35 new vs $25 to machine them) that replacing them is just less of a hassle than machining. Then, on some older cars, if the rotors are not warped or scored, it is absolutely OK to just replace the pads and be done.

I admit to doing just that on my piece of **** station wagon.

    oh come on boys!
    this is not about rotors!

somebody tell me what's the minimum thickness for the F430 flywheel please?
And which point to measure on the flywheel?

You won't find that answer among the 430 owners. They don't work on their cars and very few even have service manuals. PM one of the pros like Brian Crall
