I added my name to the state and national one awhile back. My number hasn't changed. I'm getting 3-5 telemarketers a day! What is happening? Does it expire? Is it not in effect overall anymore? Are they breaking the rules?

I get almost ZERO here, but the vacation house gets an answering machine full despite being on the list, and yes, I checked to make sure.

Tell them they are subject to an 11K fine and ask them for their attys name.

    You can sue them.

There are plenty of loopholes in the DNC laws.

In order to be in violation, the company's call to you has to fall into the definition of a 'telemarketing call'. Despite being on the national, or local DNC lists, there are exemptions to telemarketing calls. For example, companies can call current or recent customers. Another example is if the callers are not trying to sell anything on the call. Another example is a survey and/or 'consulting'. Although anyone in their right mind would classify most calls as telemarketing, you'd be surprised what doesn't fall into the definition.

In addition to the national list, most states have their own DNC lists. You can research them online.

Additionally, if the company is calling You need to register all numbers on the national do not call list.

As an aside, I was told that cell/mobile numbers were recently released to telemarketers. So, if you haven't registered your mobile number yet you should probably do so.

Of course, the story I got could be bogus, but I registered all three of my mobile numbers just in case.

Just for general info...Some of the list that you can get on are actually scams. You put your name and number on a list that says will keep you secure, but the list is actually for a company that will call that number. That is how alot of these companies are getting cell numbers now. That's all I know about the lists. I dont get many calls at all. ::crosses fingers::

Since charities are exempt, many boiler rooms have moved into telefunding of charities. And the list makes for a perfect starting point since those same people are not getting many other calls.
