On the open highway sometimes a car will cruise very close, either to the side or just behind me. In almost everey case, it turns out they are trying to take a cell phone picture. It scares me a little bit that they are cruising at 65 mph or more trying to view the image in small cell phone screen. The other thing the other drivers don't realize is that a mid-engine Ferrari has one heck of a blind spot for the f-car driver on each side. It takes a lot of neck bending in the side mirrors to keep a watch on a car that cruises nearby for an extended period of time.
I miss the good old days of passive incompetence. Other than a few young guys wanting to race me at lights, I haven't noticed much intimidation. OTOH, I don't take the bait, so I probably tune a lot of it out.
That's pretty bad. Some time ago I had the opposite situation. I'm driving down the street and a 360 overtakes me on the right and moves in front of me. Then I suddenly see a 348 following and trying to do the same manouver except there's no more room for him. Still tries to wedge in between to be behind his buddy. I slowed down and let him by as I'd not like to be in an accident involving a Ferrari out of respect to the car and not the driver... and of course my insurance premuim.
The other day I had a car pull in front of me just so his passenger can flick his cigarette hoping to hit me. Held his hand out over the roof line, took aim, let it fly, and missed.
I guess if you beat an exotic bone stock off the showroom floor with a Scion with 50+ into it you got respect. Thats why I love my fiero even though its just a chassis at the moment, once I swap the motor for a 350small block or something then we can play all day long and plus my car will be thousands cheaper than there little JDAM crap. Those guys are about as bad as the pickup truck owners on the road. now iam not a ferrari owner but I do own a fiero and I seen a few of them nearly taking my frontbumper and cut me off. They think they gotta got a truck and they own the road and to me thats just stupid. There's always something bigger and badder out there than your 50k pickup called a train or tank. I can just imagine with an exotic how those guys react on the road they probably go hogapes when you guys get into there lane.
Last time did that to us my friend got out of his car walked up to the other guys car, opened the door and kicked him. Its wrong but some people need to learn the hardway sometimes.
You don't want that 350. - lots of trouble, take it from one who has kitted a lot of Fiero/Ferraris. If you keep the chassis stock, you want a 3800SC II with AOD and OBDII. Damn near a drop in with eyeball flattening acceleration. I happen to have one right in the hanger, complete with computer and all accesories. If you do the 9" stretch, you want the Koneig body kit, or the TR body kit, both of which are rare as hen's teeth, and you want the Ford SHO engine with a Porshe transaxle mated to it. Mind blowing power, simple to do and one of the most wicked looking engines ever made! Either way, you are looking at near 10 sec times. I have a rolling chassis with the stretch done and the SHO motor already mounted. Need a body kit? Got them as well.
Heh, I don't live in a larger city and you have no clue what I'm talking about. Well, tailgating and cutting someone off is aggressive driving IMO. It endangers everyone involved. I just noticed it and wanted to know if it was an expected behaviour from some people. It's more common in the part of the world I live, but notice it even more with the bid red machine. Even guys driving cars like 5 series Bmws and Lexuses get into the ****** fray.
lol no, I actually find the opposite. People try to stay +20 ft away from me when behind me. The most common and annoying thing I get is Males 18-25 asking me to "roast em" as they spin their hands in a circle motioning at me to do a burn-out. I never do, but I try to be enthusiastic about it and I'll give them a rev to show I'm not going to be an asshat about it.
That might be a good thing. Two jerks off the road, one dead, the other in prison. You might need to grow up a little. Shooting someone for cutting you off is a bit of overkill. I don't practice in Florida, but I suspect you wouldn't be free to long after that stupid stunt. Art
Uh yeah, your post was all over the place. Who says people that drive close are trying to scare anyone? That's moronic. It seems your irrational fears are making you over think this. Besides, most regular people couldn't spot a Ferrari at 10 paces. Most people don't care to identify every car that passes, so they don't. If you're afraid of driving, then take the bus. P.S. Tailgating and aggressive driving has been around for a long time, it has nothing to do with the car "you" are in.
If I had a dime for every jerkweed that rushed past my car only to cut me off while diving 3 lanes over so he could just hit the exit ramp, I'd have paid for my 360 by now. Never happens while in the daily driver.
actually this has happened here in town. a nut job in a pickup was driving agressively, tailgating, flashing high beams, pulling alongside and making like he was going to run into the side of the other car when the other driver opened up on him with his pistol. the agressive driver was wounded and later arrested by police and the shooter was accquitted. i agree shooting someone for a minor traffic infraction is out of hand but if you feel someone is endangering your life through their actions you, in florida anyway, have a right to defend youself with deadly force. an armed society is a polite society.
Do you try to be an asshat or does it come natural ? Read the other posts guy... it's not an isolated experience.... so if it doesn't apply to you, just say so or don't bother posting. k ?
I don't practice in Florida, Hm. I live in Florida and that statement is about the only thing in your post that is correct. - Typical.
You were the one who got snotty. Take your own advice. Also stop being so parinoid. People in Camry's and Jetta's have the same stories. It's called driving in today's world.
It is a matter of extremes - during the years I drove Porsches' I noticed how much people closed the gap and how much more space they gave. It was generally one or the other. As I changed to F-cars all the distances became more extreme - they got a lot closer and a lot further away. I guess it means the more exotic the more extreme it becomes - in both directions : aggressive and conservative. Of course we are only talking about a small percentage of the population. The other 98% are oblivious to your car and everyone elses. These are the people "squatting" in the left lane saving the World from speeders. As a side note : my 7 year old son said the other day " Mustang Alert " - this had never been discussed before - he just put it together on his own - I think this says it all.
It's usually a polite society, after a bunch of people end up dead. There is a substantial difference between aggressive driving and endangerment. It's a slipperly slope about that. I suspect that the shooter, after he's paid for his lawyer, wishes that he hadn't used the pistol, because he's probably broke now. Legal defense for an assault with a deadly is probably in the low 6 figure range, I suspect. I also suspect that there are more than a few who's been convicted of this in similar circumstances, and this was an exception, rather than the rule. The issue is what your feeling represent: I suspect that it isn't a subjective mood that prevails, rather there is an objective standard, and if you don't get past that issue, you'll lose. Here is a case that went the opposite way: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,252465,00.html?sPage=fnc.specialsections/lawcenter Art
^^ Man I used to live in South Florida and the drivers there are pretty dangerous (even without the guns).... people drive like idiots. Many moons ago, I was driving my brand new formula firebird and some guy was egging me on to race his audi. We pulled off from a light and I eased it through 1,2,3... barely pushing the car and it walked the audi to 60mph.... well the other driver (instigator) pulled up next to me when I was cruising in 6th and literally tried to run me off the road 3 times ! I managed to pull away without incident... but damn, the guy was either crazy or the sorriest loser I've met to date. Either way, I spoke to a guy that drives a Bentley GT and he seems to share my sentiment... maybe it's the world we live in today ? Haters everywhere... I mean... look around.
People don't seem to have respect for others nearly as much as they used to. Close driving is annoying but over in Europe kids are running over peoples cars...."Mustang Alert" I love that........
