They typically have a pressure clip that holds them in. The only way I know of to remove the later Dino headrests are to remove the back panle and squeeze the shaft as the head rest is lifted. If I recall right, you have to do both at the same time while pulling up, not easy.
The 308 has the same setup and it is very tough to get the headreasts out. If yours just slide out then you are missing the metal clip that holds them in.
this is what they look like. If it helps. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
yes very helpful dignini and TX246, I have wanted to do the same but after a few gentle pulls with no movement, decided to leave in situ. Are the chrome bars easy to get out of the head rest for re-chroming? Kevin
I can't believe it's been almost a year!!! But I'm finally getting around to trying to remove the headrest. Can anyone shine some light as to how those clips work? The clips that hold the headrest posts in the seat. I'm being lazy and trying to do this with the passenger seat still in the car. There's barely enough space for me to slide my index finger into to touch the clip. Not much wiggle room at all so would like to try to visualize what needs to happen with the clip to release the posts. Again, with the seat in the car, I'm sitting in the driver's seat so can't see a thing. All by feel. Thanks, Manny
Manny, There is a way to get the headrest out without dismantling the seat. Hard to explain in writing but I will give it a try. The clip that retains the headrest is a long clip that runs inside the seat, across the seatback, and grips onto the notched chrome posts of the headrest on either end. If you apply pressure to the center of that clip, the clip compresses at the center while at either end the clip actually opens up, thus releasing its grip on the headrest post and allowing you to pull the headrest out. If you are facing the front of the seatback (i.e. the surface that your back rests against) go to the area at the center of the seatback approximately level with where you think the spring runs across the seat. This area will be between the headrest supports near the top of the seatback. Push hard on this area while an assistant tugs on the headrest. It will likely take a few tries but eventually you will find the spring and relieve it of enough tension so that the headrest releases. If you are doing it with the seat in the car please tell the person pulling to be careful otherwise you may be posting in a few days about how to fix a headrest shaped rip in your headliner. If my hamfisted explanation doesn't work please feel free to PM me. Good luck Best Regards, Paul
LOL! Rosemeyer, I hope I don't end up with a headrest shaped rip anywhere. But your description is clear as a bell. I'll have to do this myself but it sounds like it might be doable. Thank you very much. I'll report back in a few days. Manny
