I know that airbox. It was on ebay painted white over the black crinkle. I though about buying it too and trying to have it coated back to fresh black wrinkle. IMHO it's too much red but it does look good. It has the effect of drawing ones eyes to the valve covers that also need it.
Not a bad idea, but would probably work better if it was a more similar color shade to the valve covers.... I wonder how it looks trough the louvres of the engine lid, when closed....
mi vote is for matching color of valve cover. I am thinking of sending mine to have carbon fiber added ... what do you guys think? Also would you guys do just the top or the entire box? Has anyone done anything to spruce up the tubes?
One of the things I like so much about Ferrari engines is their bright red crinkle-finished valve covers. It's a subtle but striking touch, somewhat hidden below the "sea" of black and silver parts. For me, the red airbox is a bit shocking and draws too much attention away from the actual powerplant down below. I've seen airboxes finished in silver to match the intake, and I think that looks good. Sorry Glenn, but I'm not a fan of the red in this case. It's good to know that you're open to all opinions.
i did same exact thing to my 348 5 yrs ago! i wanted it to match valve covers but came out like yours did. faded over time to look good.
Too much for me. I would much prefer to see the intake plenums painted in wrinkle-red instead (with removal of the paint at "appropriate" spots and polishing of those areas). I am thinking of getting the bottom halves of my airboxes (355) ceramic coated. They get tremendously hot even with the heat shield between them and the exhaust. Wouldn't look so pretty perhaps but would be a practical modification that would probably have some small benefit.
I like a competition or business look in an engine compartment, rather than a show or nonstock custom look. So I'd vote no.
You mean like this I like it better also. Actually what would look the best is if the air box was the same grey color as the intake with red Ferrari and the four ridges in black. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I think the only thing that should be red under a Ferrari lid is the cam covers. But that is the great thing about your car, you can do with it what you want. If you like it that is all that matters!
If it were me, and eventualy it might be, I would more likely go with a matching silver box with black lettering sort of what Roberto did with the covers. One of the things that I have come to enjoy most about the forum over this past year is that there are a few purists that get upset about any changes from stock, but most of us seem to feel that it is our own enjoyment of the car and the experience and that we are free to add the touches that make us happy. I changed the wheels, the pedal set, the shift knob, the sill plates as you know and I think I'm done but you never know... Good for you, make it your own and enjoy what makes YOU happy!
