Just wondering how many people get a 'concealed carry' permit and then use it, or just have it to have it. I keep going back and forth on whether it's worth it - I want a Sig, but maybe I'll just leave it at home.

For those who carry guns for work, please vote based on your off-duty, out-of-uniform time.

EDIT: I forgot an option for "no permit, but still carry"

I carry a handgun depending on where I am going. The question is, do I care about the permit? Or do I believe in the 2nd amendment?

That's crazy. I'm all for the 2nd amendment but I can't imagine carrying a gun on a day to day basis. When am I going to need my glock during astronomy class???

Also where do you guys carry it? I think the best option would be like a G in your waistline, what do you all think?

You're not even old enough to own a handgun. Of course you don't need one in astronomy class, don't be absurd.

I was kidnapped and almost murdered once. Lots of other stuff as well, so I might have more reason than most other people.

Holy Crap!!! That really sucks! Glad to hear your OK.

I dont carry but think about it often. I am in D.C. which has a "no gun law", which as most would agree is completely absurd for obvious reasons. If there were more ppl that carried, then more criminals would be less flippant with a desicion to harm someone... Greater chance that someone is going to fight back. 2nd Amendment all the way.

Ya, I mean, don't get me wrong. I think you should be able to concealed carry, and it sucks what happened to you. I guess I can see why you would want to carry. But I guess I could never see myself carrying.

I think it has a lot to do with what your experiences in life have been. You know, where and how you were raised, what has happened to you and what you have seen happen to others. I'm no perfect person. I've ran with the wrong crown in the past, so I know what it's like on both sides of the fence.

If I lived up in the hills and never left my home then I wouldn't need to carry one on me, but it's a crazy world and you never know what might happen.

Like Korr said, It's better to have a gun and not need it, than to need a gun and not have it.

Do your homework. In Mass, (unless there have been major changes in the last year) you have to have a carry permit to even own a handgun. I have a MA carry permit for that reason only.

I got my handguns when my work indicated I may need to carry -- and I decided it was better to know how, just in case. (And then discovered that I liked target shooting.)

But that was in Virginia, where you don't need a permit for "open" carry. (I was never very comfortable with VA's distinction between "open" and "concealed" carry, because the degree of concealment often is based on which way you're facing.)

In MA, I didn't have a need to actually carry for work, but I still needed a "Class A" "sport/target" carry permit to even own my guns in MA. (And the Springfield became questionable after they banned "high capacity" magazines -- more than 10 rounds.)

What really surprised me was that, after taking private firearms safety and tactics lessons in VA, the "required" safety course from the MA police was just so wrong on so many points: They still think in terms of the "quick draw" DAOs, still don't recognize the benefit of controlled expansion rounds, etc. But do take the "safety" course to brush up on local laws: A self-defence shooting is still a shooting -- you have to know your legal position.

Depending on which town you live in, getting a carry permit in MA might either be a whole lot of paperwork, or it might be next to impossible: it depends on the views of your local police chief.

I had a CC permit at 18 because I went thru tons of loop holes in the law and the permit that I have allows me to carry anywhere. Pretty much if a cop can carry somewhere so can I. I never leave home without my gun for about 3 years now. For those that want to know, I have pulled it twice but never had to fire it. Once while I had 700 in my pocket and about 15k in jewlery on.... a guy jumped out and started pouding me while 3 others helped him and lucky for me they ripped my jacket off giving me access to my gun. I think they saw it be4 I pulled it because 2 took off be4 i even touched it and when I had it in my hand the other two took off like darts. Sadly you cant shoot them in the back.......
