Well do ya? Simple yes or no.. I have stopped drinking entirely over the past couple years. Not that I ever drank much.
I drink now, but carefully. I went 5 years without drinking any alcohol a few years after I got back from the Middle East 25 years ago. The little voice that tells you not to drink anymore and you've had too much, went silent in me. Too high a price to pay socially, so I quit cold turkey for 5 years. Eventually I went back to social drinking. But now I literally count my drinks. I alternate between drinks and non-alcoholic drinks all night long. Works well for me. For example, if I'm drinking gin & tonic, I drink plain tonic on ice every other drink. Everyone thinks I'm keeping pace with their drinking, but I'm at half speed. .
I don't. I may have a glass of wine 3 or 4 times a year but that's it. I had an uncle and two cousins who were alcoholics when I grew up. Two of the three are now dead of liver disease and both died while living (or should I say existing) in their double wide trailers in poverty --surrounded by open cans of beer. That was enough for me to avoid it.
Anybody remember the Mike Douglas Show? EVERY Celeb/Guest would get these questions right off the bat, and answer the questions the exact same way. Mike: So... do you drink? Celeb/Guest: Only socially. *nervously drinks scotch on the rocks* Mike: So... do you smoke? Celeb/Guest: *takes drag* Only socially *blows smoke*
Stopped drinking in 1992 and have not had a drop of alcohol since then. I don't miss it one single bit.
Wow.... two years in Saudi would be way enough for me.... Sorry, I just don't like Saudi (after spending 19 months there). Mike in Kuwait
I have not been drunk since 1998. I used to really overdo it on the rare occasions that I would drink. Then in 1998 I got punishment on paper in the Army. It was a barracks party and a bunch of us got out of control. One guy was a corporal waiting for a Sergeant slot. He totaled his car while on a beer run. He got a General Letter of Reprimand and barred from reenlistment. Really woke me up. I didn't quit drinking, just quit getting out of control. I knew out of control alcoholics and didn't want to become one, but I really do love a good beer.
I don't drink at all, too many people on my mother's side of the family died of liver cancer. I don't want to go the same way.
Sure. There's nothing wrong with consuming alcohol in moderation. Diseases such as liver cancer are results of exaggerated drinking.
I drink. Went for months at a time in college not drinking at all. Planning on giving up alcohol for Lent next year.
