I'm finally getting my 360. It's on its way. During my search it became clear that the owners of the cars I was looking at do not drive them in the rain. Do you drive yours in the rain? If not, why not? Don't they get wet when you wash them? I live in Florida and it rains almost every day in the summer! Should I be afraid to get it wet? What's the deal?
If you put some clear bra over the kick panels, and the front bumper and fenders no problem. The problem with the rain is it kicks up very small rocks more prevalently when driving in the rain, than when driving in dry conditions. After a while you car will develop some serious road rash. If it doesn't bother you, then drive away, whatever the conditions.
I drove my F430 in the rain -- albeit it doesn't get much in Vegas. The cars today don't rust. The only issue with rain driving is slippery roads and idiots who do now know how to drive in the rain. I drove my 458 in a drizzle a few weeks ago and I was shocked at how well the wipers worked. I thought.... this is a Ferrari???
Surely you'll get varying opinions but I personally do not. I drive the car simply for pleasure and do not experience the same feelings when driving in the rain. I prefer to have the windows down as well, so that alone basically rules out the idea. I wash the car often so surely it gets 'wet' but not up in the crevices and engine bits like it would if driven in the rain. They were certainly engineered with the elements in mind so don't let that put you off. It's simply a matter of preference for me. I'll wait for the sun.
I have in the past especially if I'm signed up for a show type event but usually no as it's not a lot of fun and the car gets mucked up requiring a real cleaning afterward.
I don't drive in rain due to less traction, also I spend hours cleaning it and to be ruined by rain? No sir! One time was caught in bad weather only because I was 100 miles away for the weekend. The car didn't melt but if u don't mind nasty weather go for it.
Yes When I'm on my deathbed / the car is sold I wont be worrying about that salt on the chassis, but every day it makes the journey of life a little more fun I wasn't like this when I bought it. Took a little while to get the anal retention sorted out
My 360 has never seen rain. I don't because it is a drop top that I never drive with the top up and because it turns into a sled when on a wet road (I have driven it post rain and in drizzle). When I was it, the top does not get wet.
I drive mine in the rain because there is less traction and allows you to explore the handling of your car at lower speeds. Can't believe some of the comments on here - not surprised Ferrari drivers get called names "don't drive in the rain" "too slippy" wtf.
You have to understand how POOR so many US drivers are in the rain. In the UK, you get a lot of practice! If it drizzles in Los Angeles, you can guarantee the freeways will be clogged with cars smashed every few miles. It's ridiculous.
The car will be fine rain or shine. The problem is after driving it in the rain is cleaning it after. So dirty and muddy fender wells. But I try and drive the car as much as possible.
This is very true. Same is so in SD. Most folks don't know how to drive in the rain. I learned to drive in the New England ice and snow. Yet, I don't like to drive my 360 in the wet because it sliding around is not fun to me. Some cars are fun to slide around in the wet, but my 360 is not. Probably because I don't want to go slow. Of course some people are much better drivers than me, wet or dry, so perhaps they like it more.
When I bought my 360 it had the wipers removed (texas car), I never put the wipers on in the 18 months that I owned it (arizona).
I have a top on my Spider, I put it up when it rains. I like to drive my cars in all types of weather, not just 75 and sunny. Do stear clear of ice since I am in GA.
Wow guys...thanks for all of the responses. My car hasn't even arrived yet and my wife is excited to drive it down to the Florida Keys. But taking it on any trip in Florida means ending up in the rain sometime. Now I won't feel so bad. With such a new toy, I think it will be fun to clean...at least at first! Thanks!!!
I won't take it out if it is raining beforehand, but I won't rush back home either if it starts to on a drive.
Rain or shine doesn't make a difference to me. No excuses not to take her out for a spin and have some alone time with my Italian mistress.
If you have a closet full of shoes, why would you wear your best pair on a rainy day? These idiots out there can't even texting and drive on a sunny day, just think about how bad they are when it's raining out. These cars are not a necessary form of transportation so why risk an accident? I also don't ride my motorcycle in the rain and like to golf when it's 72 degrees and <5mph winds.
True and True...but idiots are plenty everywhere. Shouldn't let their existence stop us from enjoying our rides. It's a very unique experience for me to drive my 430 in the rain. Yes, I can't go hard and fast, but somehow to hear the exhaust howling and burble amid the tapping of rain drops is honey to my ears.
It sure is nice to be able to pass them doing 6-7,000 RPMs, they usually get the message. You can't do that in the rain.
