If the plod ever get heavy with me, I guess the old full size plate will have to go back on. The standard UK plate is huge but it fits quite well if its screwed upright. However, until the evil day comes mine will keep its small plate.....anyways they have to catch you first - drive it like ya stole it...........................

My front plate is 3M taped to the spoiler and so sits at the same angle as the spoiler rather than vertical, and as I've previously posted, the bottom edge of the plate sits just above the bottom edge of the spoiler. (And it's definitely a standard sized UK plate).

It's also an MOT failure which the testers are starting to clamp down on more than they used to.

    Hi Phil -
Luckily my MOT tester doesn't make me put my full size plate on for the test any more. He knows I'd take it off as soon as I left the test centre. Just like he hasn't a clue if a late '91 348 had cats from the factory..... By the way, the insurance company know about the test pipes and have OK'd them.

I'm not trying to make a big deal about it but I take it he knows that he risks losing his MOT testing license if he's found to be passing cars that do not actually conform to the required standard (including registration plate conformity? [He'd be bloody unlucky to have it happen TBH, but it could!] ).

If he's a qualified MOT tester then he should be aware as to whether the car needs a cat or not! (along with knowing and understanding all the other latest changes to the MOT requirements).

As cats are only a legal MOT requirement on cars first used on/after 1st August 1992, your car doesn't need them.

(To add a bit of balance before I sound too much like some sort of "Holier than thou!" type, I've got an old, battered E36 BMW 328i Sport that burns a litre of oil every 200 miles ( ), and gets through the MOT test at a BMW Dealership because they've known Me for over 24 years and the do the emissions test on a "manual" setting rather than the specified standard setting [TBH, I think when it comes to the emission test they must stick the gas analyser in the car next to mine and use that cars emissions to get Mine through the test! :D ] )

Just curious what the penalty is in your state for no front plate. Most of the local group here in TX have relented because they just bumped up the fine to (a possible) $200 per infraction and many of us were getting stopped constantly (warnings mostly, but those started turning into tickets for me once they saw how many warnings I had been issued... 2 in one week once).

Would you still be willing to take the weekly hit if it meant over $10K/year (per car)?
