When going to a nice restaurant, do you let the valet guy park your car or do you keep the keys, pass him a few bucks and park it yourself? Hence...."Ferris Bueller's Day Off"

    Doesn't bother me. It's a car... remember?

The irony to this question is you'd take the night out and give the kids to a baby sitter --but not your car to the valet.

Nope. When I ask them if they know how to drive an F1 transmission and I get a blank stare ...I park it myself.

You guys don't live in Vegas. We have valet service to drop off your dry cleaning.

I have, in the past, but I always mention that reverse is where first is on most other cars.

Last time, I explained this, was told that they'd feel better if I just did it myself "if it's a real complicated car," and INSISTED that I park it myself when they looked inside and saw the gated shifter.

I parked it myself. They insisted that I park squarely in front of the venue, "So they could keep a close eye on it."

Draw what conclusions you will from this.

We have valet parking at our office. I always let the usual valet guy park it. If it is someone else besides him, I park it. It is just not worth the risk. With the GT4 having it stolen would be ok, it would be a pain, but it isn't worth much. But if they broke something, it will far more expensive than any valet convienience would be worth. Stupid fragile door lights are $250, for instance.

Last year at a Department of Surgery black tie event I let a valet park my Miata. Well when retrieving the car I clearly heard it zooming through the parking deck & him gunning it around the block to the front door of the Oglethorpe Club. My Jackson Racing supercharger & custom exhaust deliver a unique note. I reported the abuse to the manager next day.
In the past they have parked my car up front due to manual trans & everything was good.

A good friend and member of our Ferrari Carmel group valet parked his Ferrari at The Lodge in Pebble Beach while there for dinner. Unfortunately his dinner was interrupted with the news that one of the valet parking attendants had rolled the Ferrari across someone's front lawn while taking some hot laps around Pebble. Give the head valet guy a nice tip to let you park it yourself and KEEP the keys! Otherwise, find somewhere else to patronize!

Never ever. I don't even give them the keys. Just park your car yourself and pay them in advance.

The baby sitter would have credentials and references. They would also be very closely scrutinized before being hired. I've never done a job interview with a Valet. Have you? Also, its not "just a car". That kind of comment whether said with good intentions or not sounds very arrogant.

The kids can fight back (especially my demon seeds), But once the car is scratched or dented then it's a nightmare. In Hollywood/Los Angeles, these $8.00 an hour lot jockeys get to drive Ferrari's all the time but I still wouldn't trust'em!
