I’ve been a subscriber for several years and always enjoy reading Forza Magazine. Plenty of great articles every month (Ferraris only). Curious, do you read it (poll)? If yes, what do you think about it?
Been a subscriber since issue #1. I have no regrets, but like most things, there will be supporters and nay sayers.
Not a subscriber but I do go to my local bookstore and buy a copy every month. I do enjoy reading it cover to cover and then put it in my collection. I go through the hassle of buying it at the store because my magazines that I subscribe to usually get damaged in the mail and this way I can make sure they are in better than good condition. I know I could save a few dollars having the delivered but this isn't as important as the condition is to me. Regards, GG
Actually just bought a copy for the first time in a while. Nice reading actual paper magazines here and there sometimes.
I didn't read it even for the 8 or 9 years I wrote for it. Editor forced every article to be dumbed down so much so I accused him of pandering to 8 year olds. Anything he construed as anti Ferrari was strictly verboten. One of the very well known writers I know wrote 1st class works of fiction to make the editor happy and they came out as puff pieces promoting Ferrari models he couldn't stand. Expensive bird cage liner. If you read something in Prancing Horse magazine that is the opinion of the author. If you read something in Forza that is the editor sucking up to Ferrari.
I had a subscription in earlier days and simply bought them individually before that. As time went on the articles suffered and I didn’t renew my subscription. At that point I preferred Cavallino however I haven’t had a Cavallino since their big design change.
I bought Forza at the newsstand 2003-2005. I subscribed a few years ago but didn't renew. Cavallino looks interesting but not sure what would make a magazine worth $25.
I used to have a subscription nearly 20 years ago but the delay in print compared to social media and this very forum makes so much of it obsolete. of course, the downside is that new cars are so quickly introduced and pre launch reviewed, that by the time a car is delivered we are already focused on the next thing.
But the previews are 100% pro Ferrari propaganda written by someone who lives in fear of offending Ferrari. Or in the case of the other hired writer I spoke of just fantasy land fiction to please the editor to protect the income stream. Ferrari could rebadge a Pontiac Aztec and get a glowing write up saying this is a truly inspiring new direction for Ferraris of the future.
I believe Forza and Prancing Horse complement each other. Prancing Horse alone does not totally satisfy my thirst for Ferrari articles as the magazine is mostly about the past, about History and about classic models. Forza writes articles about new and current models + discontinued « recent » models + F1. Both are must-read magazines IMHO.
I just got the latest issue today. Did you know that Ferrari has revealed a new V12 coupe called "12Cilindri"? Based on the photos in the magazine, it seems to be a Daytona-inspired car, but with some design features that may turn out to be controversial. I can't wait to read the Letters to the Editor in future editions to see how it has been received by Ferrari enthusiasts!
Yes I like it quite a bit. It's feels like a throw back reading something in print. The articles are usually decent. I do get a chuckle when they have a Q&A about issues people are having with cars. Not sure who would write in and wait a month to see if their question gets picked up when you can search here and find most things in 15 seconds or post and wait 30 seconds for a response. Hard to imagine the days without f-chat! Love Forza though for what it is and I've been a subscriber for a few years now.
Been subscribing to Cav., Forza & P.H. for about 15-20 years (+ a few non-Ferrari publications 30+ years), but haven't had much interest in or time reading any of them for at least few years. I still can't believe SCM is still being published, let alone read or subscribed to. A friend who thought it was the greatest automotive publication since Gutenberg set up printing shop, gifted me a subscription for couple of years, maybe 10-15 years ago, but ended cancelling even his own after I explained the hypocrisy of it's existence (he even called/emailed them only to receive indirect confirmation). OTOH, pretty much all magazines, print or online and regardless of their subject topic, fall into same trappings.
I have been a subscriber from issue #1. have them all... my wife hates that I do... the magazine quality has gone up and down... but overall its not bad. I cant imagine coming up with articles for every issue.
I have several lifelong automotive journalist friends, most in Europe, and they all stopped long ago writing for corporate owned publications for these ^^ reasons. Every piece had to be dumbed down to a point of irrelevance and print space filled with silly photos with silly captions. Now I hear they’ve been replaced by those same “8 year olds” they were expected to write for.
Their willingness to print truth varies a great deal. Some are protecting advertising income. In Forzas case its more about access to Ferrari and their cars. I could just not sell myself to the degree they do. The editing and oversight really is extreme then cutting out multisyllabic words makes you feel like you are writing ****** and Jane book. I really did tell him we should aim higher than eight year olds but he'd have none it. One of the other writers went crazy over it too but the income was more important to him. Its just a subcontracted out advertising arm of the factory. Dave at PH bugs me from time to time to submit more. I enjoy writing for him He runs what I write and not just use my knowledge to create what he would write if he had anything to say like some editors I know.
