Other things to keep in mind: 1) Avoid asa if you have peptic ulcers or bleeding tendencies 2) Avoid if you are on other blood thinners 3) You may be allergic to it, especially if you are known to have nasal polyps... 4) LARGE chronic doses cause ulcers, renal failure, bleeding, etc 5) Don't regularily combine with other NSAIDS Otherwise ASA is a wonder drug 1) Decrease risk of MI recurrence (never really shown to prevent a 1st MI, though it likely does) 2) Decrease risk of strokes 3) Decrease risk of colon polyps/cancers 4) God knows what else it my do In terms of MI prevention an 81mg is just as good as a 325mg...so don't over do it. Also, ANY OTHER ANTI-INFLAMATORY negates the benefits of asa. So, if you take ibuprofen, alleve, etc...you lose the benefits of taking asa. No one really knows why...
Yep. 81mg - baby aspirin (they taste good too). Also I choke down 4 HBP meds, Lipitor, & the multi vitamin currently on sale at GNC with a full glass of non-fat milk. Used to get 2-inch-thick fresh fish filets when I worked for UGA & we sliced & diced them on the dock. Eating fish makes me feel good. As does deer. Vegetables suck mostly except in casseroles with lots of butter & cheese. I take the baby aspirin.
Sometimes life just sucks. Cant take aspirin, gives me a real gut ache, cant take Lipitor, makes my muscles sore and creates fatigue, now I read that my blood type is o-pos so I cant eat wheat, dairy, most beans, lentils, grains and what have you. That means no bread, pasta, cheeze and most cereals. Now I have high cholesterol, but I can eat beef, chicken, turkey, most fruits as long as they are low acid and all the veggies I want but no pizza. Everyone tries to do the right thing because if you do you might get out of this world alive. Take a little aspirin or not neither will probably hurt you.
