My ST1100 was so quite I once startled a dozy "Stop/Slow" sign holder at a road construction site.

Neither the GW or the ST benefit at all from after-market cans.

    I'll keep my gob quite about Harley/Harley-clone/ choppers/etc. :)

The Confederate bikes (shown above is the Hurricane I think) are amazing. Carbon fiber too.

As much as I enjoy (somewhat) the show, I'd never spend more than 10k on an OCC bike ... just too bland, lacking originality and innovation.
Dreamcraft Saga is innovative : http://www.tamsoldracecarsite.net/Rod04SagaMotorcycle.jpg
Confederate are nice, Chica is very cool, Gasoline Alley (Indian Larry) ... bottom line is, there are a ton of talented builders out there ... enough to avoid going with a high-priced bike assembler.

OCC ain't the only game in town plus, er, minus - their town's 3,000 miles away.

    Take your pick

Arlen Ness is right up near the top, as well he should be. He's "The Godfather of Custom Builders."

S & S components are on many other chopper builder's bikes, let alone S & S's. Like Harley, they're in Wisconsin.

Didn't see OCC on the list - no great loss, though. Who is missing is Joe Martin. He won the Biker Build-off! Also google for Jerry Covington for high-end customs or old-school & "Chica" Chikazawa - who's into old-school customs.

If you've got the patience & I suggest you do have it - wait until "Cherry's Jubilee" - which hits Monterey from Sept. 16-18. You'll be able to check out the custom wheels and deals... those who make them... and chix'n'stuff.

You'll see that even the above guys aren't the only builders - you'll also stumble onto THE custom builder whose every stunner of a finished product pleases you to no end & is cheaper than these guys whose price jacked after Discovery Channel and/or Biker Build-off. THAT'S who you should be doing business with, as he's got the bike with your name on it & it will cost far, far less. You'd be amazed at how "cheap" you can get a stunner for.

    Call it "fate."

Too bad about Indian Larry - now THAT guy...

The 25th AV Goldwing was such a pleasure to drive. Melodie would be on the back. While driving, the bike would start leaning. She was asleep. I'd turn my head and thump her on her helmet to wake her a$$ up! Now THAT'S a smoooooth bike!

After two near misses with deer, I sold all of my bikes. I really dreaded getting in an accident on them.

What year was the 25th anniv? (too lazy to google it). Have you (and you too Uro) ridden the latest model GW's with the 6 cyl engine? AMAZING. I went to a local dealers open house with an appointment to ride the RC51... but the guy before me dumped it and it was not available. All they had was a GW, and I was there in my leathers all psyched to ride, so I took it out. I figured it would be slow, hard to handle, a fat pig in turns, bad brakes, no top-end power, etc, etc. I was very pleasantly surprised. I could actually see myself owning one of those pigs when I get old like you guys :)
