Do you think point(s) should be awarded for pole and/or fastest lap?

    If yes, how many?

Also, would you like to see a change in the current point system? What would it be?

    I'd like to see;
    10 points for winning
    7 points for 2nd place
    5 points for 3rd place
    3 points for 4th place
    2 points for 5th place
    1 point for 6th place

1 point each for pole position and fastest lap of the race.

I would like qualifying points, IF the rules were changed to allow refueling after qualifying, or if the points were based on fast lap in the whole qualifying process, not the pole.

As it is, every race this season has been won from pole, so there's essentially a bonus for that spot.

    Good point.

I always thought that the idea of having to consider fuel in qualifying is a joke. I want to see the cars going flat out. their absolute fastest during qualifying.

how bout also giving points for moving up the field and holding.........for example, give them .25 point for each position moved up.......if you start at 18th and finish 10th you'd get 2 points........this way the smaller, less dominant teams would get some points on the board....and drivers would have an incentive to try and move up the field....

how bout team points for best pit performance?? how the pit crew performs has a direct effect on the race, so why not award points?

points for qualifying are a good idea too, i'd also like to see identical fuel loads for every team, when it comes to qualifying.......make things as equal as possible and let the drivers do their best.......try and make it more about the driver and not so much about the car......

Interesting ideas, however I think it would get pretty confusing.

They usually give 10 points for getting the pole don't they?

I think some of your ideas are great. However I feel with a scoring system that gives out .25 points for each position moved up would get to complicated to keep track of. Often the way lesser teams move up is through attrition. Would they be rewarded points for that or only for passing? In Nascar they give out points for everything. Their complex scoring systems turns me off of their sport.

I think the current scoring system has flaws. I feel you should not get 8 points for a 2nd place finish. Kizdan's idea for scoring makes sense. Although I do not know how I feel about getting a point for fastest lap.

    Agreed.

I have seen some alternative scoring that has been brought up in other forums and it applies.. eh, ok, but you have to look back at the stats in races from yesteryears and see how well it works. For instance, does the guy who makes fastest lap, poles, win the championship without ever winning a race?

Totally disagree. Points should be awarded for race day results only. The only change I would like to see is a return to the old system, but instead of only the top six scoring points, keep the top eight as scoring spots. So 12, 8, 6, 5, etc.

I think the Nascar system makes for more interest.
For example the leader has 2000 points under their system and the last place guy has 1500 or so.
This may give a false sense of the actual gap but it allows for someone to root for their driver/team at the bottom of the pecking order as they are "only" 500 points away.
Who cheers for an F1 driver/team with Zero points ? Ever see a fan wearing a Minardi hat ?
Manufacturers and drivers at the bottom end must feel like fools.
More importantly their Sponsors do as well.

Yes, I do. I have a friend with a Minardi hat and a Super Aguri shirt. Both are rare. And just for the record, Minardi did get one point at Indy. =)

I do agree. It is difficult to explain to someone not in the know of F1 and tell them "yea... they fight for not-last-place."

The guy who gets pole usually wins the race so it's meaningless. Out of the 7 races thus far, 6 of the winners had pole that race. The only time that didn't happen was when Felipe had pole in Malaysia, but Fernando won.

Out of the 7 races, 4 of the winners set the fastest lap. The 3 that didn't were Malaysia (LH fastest, FA winner), Canada (FA fastest, LH winner), and US (KR fastest, LH winner).

I don't think points should be given for either of those. I say make the points standings as follows:

    1st - 12 points
    2nd - 9 points
    3rd - 7 points
    4th - 5 points
    5th - 4 points
    6th - 3 points
    7th - 2 points
    8th - 1 point

Not quite, it would change qualifying a fair bit.

What would happen is if a team was struggling they would go real light on fuel just to bag the pole points, and sacrifice the win (but aim to get 3rd or 4th ...). Also if you had a flat tyre for example in the race this would give incentive to not just lap around for the sponsors but to go for it and get that extra fastest race lap point.

Keeps it interesting and gives them more options.

Most teams burn up their fuel low enough to get in a fast lap with fresh tires. None of the people that make it to Q1 fill it to the brim.

they should go for super soft tyres for quali, and almost empty fuel tanks. thats real flat out quali.

and yea, to answer the question, points for both fastest lap and pole. i think they should also award the driver who led the most laps with points.

this means, drivers will be really fighting for pole, driving their wheels off for fastest laps, and, fighting like hell for the lead. then, we might just see some overtaking :)

NO to extra points, because the rich will get richer, and the poor will get poorer. That's exactly what F1 does NOT need right now.
At any one season, you will see mainly two teams garner all of these 'extra points', and that's just not right, and something that is simply not needed.

Extra point for pole? I don't see the point, pole is most likely to win anyway.

    points for pole?
You should only earn points for your finish on race day.
what next points for practice? wnd tunnel testing? dyno test?
