Do you think Sebastien Bourdais deserves a shot in F1?

Is he better than Justin Wilson? Yes, but that's not saying much. Sponsorship money? McDonald's?

 

He's just an average driver in a very less than average league. He would get his a$$ handed to him in an Indy car race, let alone an F1 event.

 

No one deserves a chance, they have to earn it.

 

I would think he could take a shot if he wanted at this point (ie, after his contract is fulfilled after the 2007 season). He has enough money to entice the lower teams, and he's talented for sure. The last race of the season this past weekend, in the rain, at Mexico City was an excellent race to watch.

Just my $.02, but F1 could learn a bit from Champ Car. ie, ground effects over wings, wider track (wheel to wheel) widths, and sequentials that require you to reach off the steering wheel.

 

He's too old.

 

I think he would do well, but I think he is a bit older now to start in F-1 .... nobody will give him a good seat... so he would be at super aguri friends....or some other less than good team.... like Williams!

Will there be time?

 

two out of the last three recent switches from CART to F1 (villeneuve, zanardi, montoya) did not meet with great success. since dominating in CART is no guarantee that similar success will follow in F1, why would team owners take the chance when there are other drivers already in the F1 system to choose from? if i really wanted F1, i would take a testing role (even if that means a lower prestige), learn the car and get a shot at a regular drive the following year.

We're talking ChampCar, not CART. CART was actually a good series. Montoya was successful and was the 4th best driver when he raced (MS, FA, and KR better imo). Zanardi had the bad luck by going to Toyota, which continues to fail. Jacques went to BAR with the same demise.

 

Good question ! Here in France nobody understands! Renault is world champion in 2005 and 2006, and we don't have a French pilot in F1.
I believe that it's very happy in Champ cars and that it really any more does not think of F1...

 

Look, I have seen how high strung you guys are.
The bottom line is the guy does not have "it". He is a very average driver.
He looks good in Champ Car, because there is a TOTAL talent vacum in that league...

Come on....NASCAR drivers, even Truck series are superior drivers to someone like a Paul Tarcy, who can only win races by wrecking the competition.

 

I'd say yes. At 27 years of age he's already won the title 3 times. Where else can he go that's a step up? What new challenege is there? He's already stated he doesn't have any interest in Nascar, He's already with the best team, so is he supposed to stay in champcar for an additional 15 years winning who knows how many championships? With guys like Ralph, Rubens, DC, Trulli, and Fisi still in F1, I think Seabass should be given a chace to replace one of these old veterans.

 

He has been methodical and consistent, and when he hasn't finished well it usually has not been his fault. He reminds me of Prost. I think he would do well in F1. He says if he doesnt get an F1 ride he would like to run more sports cars and win LeMans, his home town.

 

villeneuve is the only one who had great success. montoya won races, but what did it amount to? he's now out of the series, likely to never return. if montoya had threatened to win the WDC for several years, then he would have had a successful career, imo. he did well, i just wouldn't call it great.

Definitely! Seb is damn good. He deserves a decent shot at it.There are lot of codgers in F1 who need to be given the heave-ho: Heidfeld, Trulli, R Schumacher, DC, De La Rosa, Barrichello.

I would like to see Seb Loeb also be given a try-out - I think he would be fast in F1 also.

 

Look, the guy deserves a shot, but whether he makes it or not is up to him.
Some do, and some don't, but he has done enough to get a shot at it.
'Average' drivers don't win multiple championships - in any series.

 

What you have to understand is that the present F1 Renault team is NOT FRENCH AT ALL!!! Only the engine and the budget comes from Renault.
It's not like in the old days when the team was based near Paris (Viry Chatillon?), with Larousse at the helm, and Jabouille, Prost, Tambay and Arnoux as drivers - all French.

The present team is based in England, staffed mostly by ex-Benetton personel, and lead by Briatore (ex-Benetton manager). RENAULT is just a badge on a British car.

Several times Briatore has said in public that he doesn't feel he should favour a French driver and that the management at Renault backs him up.
