I just got a new Maserati Spyder and want to know if any of you current owners:

    1. have problems with rock chips
    2. use the 3M film, or equivalent

In looking at the car, it seems like most of the road junk would go into the front grill. Maybe it needs some protection around the grill?

    Thoughts?

2,200 miles on mine and no sign of any rock chips, Then again I very rarely go on Highways. Dealership had a couple of Spyders in stock with that clear stuff over the front and thought it took away from the looks of the car

It doesn't sound like much an answer, but the advice about staying off the freeway as much as possible is right on.

Actually the interstates out here (San Diego) are choked with semis and construction trucks (dump, flatbed, etc.) which spew diesel fumes and throw stones. Not much much fun.

This car, unfortunately, is a daily driver so everything goes: freeways, byways, swamps, deluges, snow, etc...! I've got Armour Coat for my 360 and love it (not film). Maybe I'll look into the stuff for the Spyder if more people report rock chips - thx! - Tim

The only chip I've picked up is just about dead center of the hood. The stone came off a truck headed the other direction on a 2-lane road. :(

Surprisingly, in 11,000 miles we've not picked up any road rash on the nose of the Spyder.

My suggestion would be to get the film, especially if you drive where you get pebbles/dirt thrown at the car, such as the occasional highway construction, unpaved road, on the race track, etc.

It makes a difference; I have seen cars with rock chip peppered paint except where the film was. I have the film on my Maserati - covers the nose, door mirrors, around wheel arches.

I have about 14,000 miles on my Spyder and it has had the 3M film since new. I'm happy to report no chips at all. I would suggest that if you do the film, make sure you do the wheel well area right in front of the rear wheels (by the Guigario logo). I didn't and that is the only area that shows any wear.
