For me, cleaning is one of the parts of owning any car I really enjoy. It can be therapy.

I got mine at Pep Boys, but I suspect they're available at any good auto parts store.

Do you intend for him to drive it? I'd be glad if my dad gave me a 512M with, say, 15,000 miles on it, I don't think he'd mind either. :)

WalMart in the automotive section - come in couple different sizes - great for dusting the car - actually work better the more they're used

Best investment for furthering the enjoyment of washing Ferrari's with LOTS of louvers?

Air compressor! $129 at Sears (3 gallon) with a nozzle gun attachment... You would be amazed at the water that comes out of a "just dried car"... Blows water out of my 328's louvers, tail lights/license plate, pillar windows (where rust starts so easily on 3x8 cars if left), rubber window seals (Yes... There is LOTS of water between the glass and the seal!) mirrors, wheel lugnuts, door latches, step panels... you name it!

A friend with a 308 shared the wonders of this with me and I bought mine the next day... Man... Washing the car is REALLY a joy now!

Thats why im not driving it, i intend to give it to him someday, maybe as a wedding present...or whenever i feel it is right.

I want him to drive a classic Ferrari, dont get me wrong, i love driving it, and i love the v12, but i would rather drive my other 2 and let him have a fairly new, VERY low mile ferrari, i will get all the work done to make sure nothing has deteriorated in it, all seals, belts and other wear out items from sitting are replaced, then i will give it to him as a present, hes only 14 right now though, so im not really thinking about it yet. I drive that car once or twice a year, and after i do it leaks oil, drips crap, and all that, so its not for driving right now, its for preserving the Ferrari Heritage of that day for my later generation. I think he will very much appreciate me not driving it, and letting him do his turn in the miles...i just hope he doesnt buy one before i get the chance to give it to him, because he sure does love them now.

Yup, a 5,000 PSI pressure washer and a bucket of dish soap does the trick. I blow dry the car by doing a few 90 MPH passes up and down my street.

Im not trying to say anything mean, but thats actually not a good idea, when your car is wet and it gets dirty on it from driving it just grooves in and scratches your paint more. you might want to try a leaf blower though, that seems to work better while keeping the road grime off.

I've got one but I'm worried it'll scratch my new paint. Do they scratch?

I have about the same question, as I am considering buying one of these to use on my ride. How well do these things work and are they gentle enough to avoid scratching my paint? Also, are these things more or less like a "Swiffer" for vehicle exteriors and if so is it made from the same material? If so I don't think I would be to hyped about using such a device on my paint.

Err, Ahh, I was making a joke but thanks.
I use Griots car wash soap and rinse with water through a 2 micron "whole house" carbon filter.
I use clean compressed air to blow my cars down when washing inside. Otherwise I use the Griot's "foam" water blade then a light rub down with a terry towel.

If you use them as simply a duster then they should not cause any harm to your paint. If there is any more debris on the surface other than *dust* (like the stuff that accumulates in your house, not the stuff you get on your car going down a shell road, etc.) you really risk scratching as you'll pick up heavier particles and drag them across the paint. It's really made for garage-queen type cars that just. . .well. . . collect dust. You can probably accomplish the same task by using a soft, lint-free rag to lightly wipe down the surface.

Yes, for all the reasons you've stated. A nice coat of Zymol Ital gives it a traffic-stopping shine. And I really love that because I was the one who was able to make it gleam.

I don't wash my cars - don't enjoy it, not enough time, and I get them dirty virtually every weekend. I will do the Meguiar's Quick Detail on the Ferrari sometimes if its just dusty, but I find the worst is usually my wheels with brake dust so I have the car washed relatively often by guys who I tip enough not to screw up. Plus I do drive the 348 a lot so it gets bugs, road crud, etc that really is beyond a Quick Detail. Porsche and Benz the guys was regularly - Jeep goes in tomorrow for a maiden wash.

But with my Buick I only wipe that car down with Quick Detail and use a California duster - this car doesn't go far and doesn't get dirty plus it is the car I don't trust anyone with.

Gotta go pick up the 348 at the car wash.

    Cheers
    Kev

I wash all 4 of my cars myself & do the interiors too. Ok, I wouldn't trust any of them to a drive in service advertised as "full detailing". Sure I could pay for "leather treatments" but I have Griot's products. Time will tell.
