I hurt my tail bone today skydiving. I didn't break it but I did bruise it. I can sit down if I slouch a little bit. I don't think it's broken but it does hurt to take a ****. I drove an hour home after it happened and it didn't hurt in the car at all, its just the bathroom and trying to sit anywhere between perfectly straight and completely slouched. Can someone who knows what they are talking about please give me a ballpark on how long something like this takes to heal?

I'm no Dr. but from your description I think you have a pulled muscle in your back or possibly neck. I would rec. Xrays to be sure. Grab some NSAID's if they don't write you a script for hydrocodone/APAP or Darv. N100's

You may have SI joint pain not a bruised tailbone. If you had bruised your coccyx it would hurt to sit on any surface. The fact that it bothers you more while taking a **** and your pain changes with changes in back positioning says to me it is not a tailbone "bruise" and is more than likely SI joint dysfunction. It is difficult to correctly DX any condition over the internet. What was your mechanism of injury? Best bet is icing and over the counter anti-inflammatories. You should verify any thoughts with your PCP. Good luck.

You should seek help from a doctor in person. Go to a clinic if you have to but get it looked at.

I took a bad bounce off a motor bike once and smashed the coccyx {wow spell check had that word}, it took weeks to heal. I was told that muscles in that area are likely to move and pull on it with very little movement from you.

I would suggest laying in bed for a couple of days. It's like a sprained ankle, the more you move the less healing will be done. If it hurts very badly like you say, you must rest your whole body. I hope "ASAP" means "As still as Possible".

P.S. I'm no doc but slouching means you're resting on it. That CAN'T help the healing process can it???

Good luck with the speedy part of things.

    I found this:

    Pain Relief

You may be given medication to ease the pain. To reduce discomfort during bowel movements:

    * Drink plenty of fluids and eat a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.
    * Stool softeners may help decrease straining during bowel movements.
    * Sitz baths can help relieve muscle spasms. A sitz bath involves soaking the anal area in warm tap water for 10-20 minutes.

Sitting can be very uncomfortable after a coccyx fracture. Suggestions to make sitting less painful include:

    * Sit on an air cushion or doughnut pad.
    * Alternate between sitting on one side of the buttock or the other.
    * Try sitting on a hard chair. Sinking into a soft chair sometimes increases the pressure on the coccyx.
    * Slouch to move your weight forward and off the coccyx. Note: This advice holds only until you are well enough to sit properly again.
    * Sit on a telephone book, with the area of the coccyx hanging off the posterior portion of the phone book.

I hurt mine with a rowing machine and had serious intermittent pain for a couple of years, usually in movie theaters and on airplanes. Get one of those donut thingies if you know you'll be sitting somewhere for an extended period of time.

Even if the coccyx is fractured, no treatment is needed aside from paliative care. The donut helps, so will NSAIDS, and rest, of course. Give yourself 6-8 weeks, but see your PMD in 2-3 days if you're not noticeably better.

Thanks for the help. I'm scheduled to jump again in two weeks but if it doesn't feel better then I may have to push it till the end of the month.

You know that feeling in your stomach when you've been in pain so long you feel like your gonna throw up? Yeah, its that. I'm going to see the doctor tomorrow (today technically) hopefully I can score some Vicodin to ease the pain. I'm pretty sure at this point that it it's only bruised but it still hurts.
