I am pulling the trigger on an 07 430 spider (my first Fcar). One of the selling points was that it has 18mos remaining of Power normal warranty which gives me some comfort about buying the car without seeing it and driving it. What sort of paperwork is meant to accompany the warranty that the dealer can send me with the purchase agreement to prove that the warranty is in force BEFORE I sign and wire money. Also, what else do any of you recommend is standard to have in hand from the dealer before doing the deal? This is the first time I am buying a car at a distance where I am not just going with a check and driving out with car. Am a bit nervous though I know many of you have bought cars that are then transported to you.

Any other recommendations are appreciated, e.g. things I should insist upon or things that should be confirmed are accompanying the car (two keys? books? tools? etc.)

Warranty stays with the car, not the owner. Typically, you don't get any paperwork, but calling any authorized dealer and providing them with the last 6 of the VIN, they can confirm the level of warranty and time remaining.

Based on a few scams going around lately, I would use a lawyer or escrow service, unless it is a big name brand dealer.

As for both keys, owners manual, stereo code cards, and potentially all service records. If they cannot provide service records, as for names and locations of previous owners so you can determine what dealerships provided service. This way, in the event of an issue, you can check with those dealerships on details if something were to appear.

Did you get a PPI done? I actually have never done one, but I have also probably been pretty lucky on my car purchases.

Car is coming from a factory authorized Ferrari dealer. Assumed with a factory authorized, registered dealer that escrow is not necessary (hope you agree?). Wonder if they can reference the warranty expiry date in the purchase agreement. Is that done? Have seen the service records and the car is coincidentally originally from a local store. No way to know if they've selectively left out anything from the file but appears to be comprehensive.

With 18mos of Power warranty (which requires the 101-point dealer check) and car coming from a dealer, I didn't think it necessary to get a PPI. Not sure who'd even be qualified to do in that region other than the dealer themselves. So will probably proceed as you have: without PPI.

With 18 months left on the warranty you should be Ok IMO, I was in the same situation and my car had 12 months of power normal on it, I didn't check anything and after looking at the car for about 5 minutes at the dealer I pulled the trigger.

I didn't get any documentations, the authorized dealer just confirmed the warranty expires on November 2012 and that was it.

Good luck with your purchase and enjoy.

I concur. With factory warranty, I wouldn't worry at all. I didn't PPI my
Scud I just bought for the exact same reasons.

Sounds like you'll be fine! Congrats!!

Glad you guys agree. That's good feedback. Dealing with some upgrades now like laser and radar. Then it's going on the truck for delivery.
    Thanks!

I just did this last month (bought one from the other side of the country and had it shipped), don't sweat it if you're dealing with one of the authorized dealers. They're not going to risk their reputation in order to make a small chunk of change on a 5 year old car.

You may want to have them let you know how the battery is holding a charge if it's not new, how much life is left on the clutch, what the tire tread depth is and how much is left on the brake pads. Those are really all of the things you should have to worry about in a car that's been well looked after.

With my purchase I received a warranty booklet that explained what the warranty covered, as well as all prior service records, the CPO inspection check-sheet, the booklet that is stamped for each major service, the two toolkits, car cover, battery tender, ferrari flashlight, stereo key code, manuals & two beautiful red keys.

Oh, and the car. That part's important.

I just got the Power warranty on my 430 which was delivered last week. It had had the extended warranty since new, and I think this is a positive when selling the car later on too.
I did get a smart black book with the Power warranty, which the dealer should fill in and sign, stating the VIN, warranty start/end date, mileage, etc.
My dealer did the full 100+ point check, including a compression check, and even replaced the brake pads for me in the warranty cost. A worthwhile expense for peace of mind, especially as my earlier 360 had an F1 shift problem develop within weeks of buying it.
It was trucked to me, sight unseen, and is as new-looking as the dealer stated on the phone to me.

No PPI for me either bc I had over a year of factory warranty left. Good luck.

If you don't PPI or physically look at the car and something comes up later you have no one to blame but yourself. Even the best of them will omit when selling a car. That includes being promised something that changed when you got it. Best of luck.

Ask the dealer for the MODIS print out verifying coverage. collect and retain ANY service information on the car for it's life to current.

Power Cube is the warranty that takes place after the factory warranty lapses, you may get two more power cube extensions after that. Each must be done within 30 days of expiration.

After that you are eligible for power normal, then powertrain. (your car can be covered by the factory for up to 10 years after original in-service date - as long as you follow their criteria)

Spiders come with an automatic re-enrollment of powercube.
