I'm wanting to upgrade/renew the stock springs on my 77 308, but Eibach needs to know some measurements, such as:

    1) uncompressed length, front and rear
    2) inside diameter (2.5", I believe), front and rear
    3) spring rates, front and rear (I'll go stiffer, but I need a starting point)

For some odd reason, no manufacturers I know of can just provide a spring set for the 308. You would think they'd have those specs on hand, and would just have a part number ready....

    Thanks in advance,
    Greg

Greg, Eibach does not make a direct replacement spring for the 308.
If I remember correctly, only two companies make a direct replacement spring for the 308, I think a place in New Zealand, and maybe Superformance in the UK.
The problem is that the 308 is an old car, and the spring diameter is non standard.

Having read about your suspension posts,
my advice would be to start with a complete suspension check.

Due to age your suspension bushings are probable worn out.
Upon inspection you will probably notice cracks in the rubber.
Unless they have already been replaced, 28 years old bushings
will need to come out, and new ones installed.
Remove your shocks and take them to a shop that has a machine to test them, you can't tell if they are bad by bouncing the car up and down.
If they are bad, which after 28 years they are likely to be,
You can have them rebuilt, or Koni makes a direct replacement shock for the 308 if you want to stay original.

I, as many others have done, have gone to after-market suspension components to turn a 28 year old wallowing pig, into a more modern handling machine.

Graphite impregnated poly bushings, adjustable aluminum racing shocks,
and standard ID size lower stiffer springs, have made all the difference in the world.

    Good Luck with your project!

    Dave,
What, specifically, did you put on your car?

The ID of the stock springs is about 3.5 inches. The old spring that came out of my car measured 135 lb/in front and 145 rear, the the spec is 175/185 I think. The free length is listed in the service manual, but I don't have it in front of me....they are long though, like 12 and 14" I think

2.5" springs can be adapted to the stock shocks, but it is a bit of work.

    Thanks,

It looks like it makes more sense, financially, and performance-wise, to go ahead and perform a full re-do, using modern components. I'll probably go Varishock coil-over. If I were to replace the KONIs with the same, and then buy springs to fit them (which, apparently aren't available in the US), I'd be spending about the same money anyway!

    The drama continues....

I went to Koni adjustable coil-overs from Carobu which accept the commonly available Eibach 2.5" ID springs ($52 apiece from Summit, lots of specs available, MUCH lighter than stock). Note s/s brake line and uprated Brembo rotor as well.
