I am about fed up with this thing, I have never once gotten it to work and I am pretty good with electronics, but this Bose system just befuddles me. I've ignored it for two years but today is the day I get the answer...i hope.

I had to laugh when I read your post, the 599 radio only works about 1/3 of the time anyway :) Okay, try this.

    1. Hook up iPod first
    2. Start Car
    3. Choose the Media Button
    4. Use knob or arrow to scroll to "iPod"
    5. Load music and hit play

Note: after shutting down car, I've had to repeat the process, there are threads about the iPod here if you search a little bit.

I have been frustrated too many times myself in using the ipod. I have finally set the ipod on all the time, never turning the media function off, and only pushing the ok button on the display after I hear music from the ipod.
I found out that if you hit the ok button before you get music from the ipod, you can't switch the ipod on by hitting the media button, you can only get the radio or cd player, you have to turn off the engine and start all over again.
I also found out that the ipod doesn't charge the battery when it is hooked up so you have to take it out or replace it with another charged ipod.
Very poorly designed hook up, I have heard aftermarket hookup kits are much better.
Don't even talk about the iphone hookup, that is another problem that my dealer in Hong Kong has yet to help me with.

i just got an 09 612 and QP. The ipod nano prevideo works flawlessly on both cars. My old ipod from a couple years ago and my brand new itouch dont work...they get lost...the cable does not charge the i touch but it does charge the old ipod and the nano. I dont know if a new nano with video works because i dont have one. fwiw.

I just put this on another thread, but I'll do it here to. To fix the charging problem go to www.cablejive.com and buy a "charge converter." An extension cable is also a good idea so you can more easily plug in the phone/ipod. I think some of the problems may be a poor connection since it can be hard to plug the phone/ipod into the car's cable.

It varies among Apple devices. I'm not sure which ones need the charge converter, but I know the iphone does.
