There is a tremendous wealth of information in the FChat archives, but I generally relegate myself to what is contained in the current site.

Just out of curiosity does, anybody search the old FChat.com archives?

Dual searches all the time - or preference for one vs. the other?

I usually search subjects only, current website.
Sometimes I search the old one. Only when I want all the results I can possibly get like if I am searching for specific pictures. If I am searching for general info, only the current site.

I've done it, but without a huge amount of success. When it comes to technical issues, searching works pretty well. When looking for other people's quotes, not so good.

it was down for a while - glad to see it's back up. LOTS of good data in there.

it's a shame it couldn't be integrated into the current board (different board software).

I've conducted several searches without much luck. I've been particularly interested in what folk do when keeping a car in a salty, damp climate, or how folk deal with being a great distance from either an authorized or qualified service location. No results in either case that were applicable to my situation.
Maybe there's a way to search that I am unaware of.

Huh? Do you mean that there was life before the current F-Chat? Somehow, I just don't buy that...

YES! The amount of information back in the old Fchat is sometimes superior in its technical detail.

In terms of search tricks, I have found that using quotation marks to assist with phrase-searching is very very helpful. (i.e. "348 brake pad" or "355 slow down" usually narrows some of the junk. The old Fchat search function is a bit painful, but the results are worthwhile.

What would be really really useful would be if Rob could subscribe(?) install(?) some Google searching functions within the site. I sometimes use the Advanced Google searches (http://www.google.com/advanced_search) to drill through things within the domain, but it is dependant on Google having crawled the site recently.

Try playing with the searches this way (in Google) "348 brakes" site:70.85.40.84

It really helps to use key words one may recall being used on the thread, which have nothing to do with the search criteria under normal circumstances.

    For instance:

    0846 swisserland

returns 3 results & I find what else I'm looking for.
