I've been trying to track down a very annoying exhaust leak / problem that I've had on my car for a very, very, very long time. Just replaced all of the gaskets, and the hardware, and I still have problems. I'm thinking it may be the muffler. Anyone have one I can borrow to try out and see if it is indeed the problem?

    Many thanks in advance,

    Wayne

Have you checked the air injection nozzles?

Or vaccuum line check valves on emmissions hoses. I had one go bad and noticable exhaust leak sound. I doubt your muffler is leaking unless there is noticable rust or corrosion.

Hi Wayne, I have a spare ANSA exhaust that you can borrow. It's from a 77' 308gtb. I am in Orange County-Irvine area. Come and get it! I can't promise you it wont be leaking either though, but it was working perfectly when I took it out 6-7 years ago. It looks intact to me now. PM me if you are interested.

    Hello Wayne,
If it is sort of a pulsing whistling sound, the chances are that one or more of the air injection pipes into teh iar injectors, located just above the exhaust manifolds have cracked. Evidently this happens a lot particularly if the air pump is disconnected. I think this is the case on my GT-4. I have removed the injectors on the backside of the engine (really hard to get a wrench on them) but dont know how to access them on the front of the engine. I think I will have to remove the front exhaust headers to get at them. Fortunately as the motor heats up the noise mostly goes away, so I will live with it for now untill I get enough courage to donate a lot of skinned knuckles blood to Tweety.
    Regards to your family,
    Martin
