It's a great looking car. I was looking at it yesterday (online) and thought that it would be one to have. There are very few 85 GTB's and the US bumpers aren't as awkward on the black ones. One of my favorite color schemes on the QV. Although 42k sounds a little high for that car bear in mind that that is the starting point for negotiations. IMO 42k for a great car like that (assuming it is, it sure looks like it online) is not a bad deal. It's more than most but even if you find a great one for 35k or so, after negotiations you aren't far off. I wouldn't lose that car over a couple grand if I was in the market and it is as good as it looks.

The VIN shows up on Wade's QV registry, perhaps he has some info on the car. The car looks good.

US spec QV GTBs are really rare, black ones rarer still. If it is what you are looking for, I'd try hard to check it out and buy it.

Thanks for the comments. I assumed that it was at that price point because of the rarity, but hope the price also reflects the excellent mechanical, bodywork, and interior condition. Sure looks great in the pictures.

I think The CarReaper also looked in depth at this Ferrari a couple of weeks ago. Waiting to get his valued opinion.

negative. Friend in Florida knew the broker with the gray euro GTB QV in PA. That one is nosebleed also. Have not looked into that black one as buying from a dealer = 8% GA sales tax. No thanks. :)

I recently purchased a 308 QV from California. I did not have to pay the state tax because I did not register the car to be used in their state. I live in Canada, and once the vehicle arrived in my city, I had to register my car with the Province. Only then did I pay any tax. Correct me if I'm wrong, but regardless on where you live, the dreaded tax will get you. The only benefit to some might be that the state in which you reside might have a lower state tax than where the vehicle was initially sold. I understand the sales perspective in negotiating privately vs with a dealer. But like anything in life, money is just that...it's negotiable.

I'm pretty sure I screwed up with respect to state taxes when I bought my QV. In NC (if I'm right, not fully sure) you can just bring in the title and pay taxes on the state tax value. I brought in a bill of sale and was taxed on that and my tax value was only about 7g on about the same car.

    OOooops!!

Georgia residents only pay sales tax on vehicles purchased from Dealers. If this 308 was a private sale, their would be no sales tax paid to GA by the new owner. This is legal even for out of state purchases. A sweet deal when you can legally beat the tax man at his own game.

Kind of like Congress being able to trade and profit on non public information because it is legal for them. A private citizen gets jail time for insider trading, or also known as non public information. Being in GA and closing a private sale makes you feel like being on Capital Hill with the rest of the elite.

    What Joe said.

We dont pay sales tax on cars bought from individuals in or out of State.

We STILL have to pay ad velor-um property tax on the car once a year, as long as you own it, due on your birthday. old 308s run around $200.00 a year in property taxes, depending on where you live.

So buy a car from a dealer, pay shipping, add sales tax, add property tax = it gets expensive, and you have not even fixed all the crap that's usually wrong with a 25+ year old Italian car yet.

The story on this 308 is getting interesting. Research now indicates that the 308 is most likely at least a 5 owner Fcar? Not a ONE Owner, as published in the eBay listing.

Mileage is also interesting in that the same research now provides one data point, which could add, or detract from the 31K mileage claim. This data point was recorded back in 1989 from California. Recorded mileage on that date was 18K miles.

I have contacted the seller in an effort to collect suficient provenance to prove number of owners and mileage, besides the AutoCheck report.

I would like to acknowledge Wade for his diligence.

    meh....

There are no 1985 308 GTB's without an interesting story. You should get a PPI if you don't know for sure what you are looking for or if this is it, but I'll bet you a dime to a dollar you'll never find a better 1985 Black 308 GTB.

    IMO :)

Goes without saying that I would get a PPI prior to dropping a dime. Must admit that shiny black paint and new interior with the vacuum marks makes for an emotional purchase. However, a shiny wrapper can be misleading. Pictures don´t show everything. Photoshop nowadays can do wonders....

No additional information has surfaced on this GTB. All the questions I emailed the dealer have gone unanswered so far. Will make an effort to call the seller when I return to the USA.

NNO is in the hunt, but could not provide any info at this time.

Stay tuned, I will update thread as additional information becomes available.

Is that what it runs in the Savannah area? Here in Atlanta, I pay 35 bucks a year for my 85 308, with a personal plate. That's one of the perks for driving an older car. FWIW if you find an '85 GTB that is a good car and it's what you want, make the deal. They are very few and far between here in the US, particularly if you want a euro. That black car looks pretty good as long as you can sort the history and get it for a decent price.

Not to hijack this thread but has anyone tried selling their Euro back to Europe? If the prices are so strong over there the shipping really isnt that bad. A good Euro should bring biggish bucks.

I not sure about the 308/328 series, but definitely the classic Lambo's have been lining up leaving NA for Europe.

Interesting, I would have thought Atlanta was the most expensive area of the state. And yes all areas of Atlanta have emissions inspection but it's a rolling 25 year exemption, which means the '85 euro (no emissions equipment whatsoever) is completely 100% legal and dirt cheap to put on the road...at least from a tax point of view. Actually looking at taxes and insurance, it's the cheapest car I own. Even gets better mileage than two others. Hell throw in zero depreciation and it's by far the cheapest car I own. :D

Go for the euro. I drove a couple US cars on my search and the euro just felt better, more lively. I also wanted a QV because I wanted a car I could just jump in and drive any time I wanted with little tinkering required. Carbs are great (and I've owned a bunch), but in the end FI rules.

    '85 euro GTB = nirvana

    I think I'll go for a drive.
