My 1994 348 (single clutch plate) is starting to have trouble starting when hot, it's been diagnosed as the dreaded flywheel Kluber grease thinning out. Since MD Clutches has gone out of business, does anyone else sell a rebuild kit, or is there someone on the west coast that will take it apart and re-grease it?

It is a simple but messy diy job.

Perhaps you can try googling for "ferrari 348 flywheel regrease kit".

Just found my records of the sizes of the flywheel o-rings:

    Large:.....................240 mm (or 242 mm) x 3 mm
    Small (12 pcs):.......8 mm x 1.5 mm

You can buy the o-rings (viton) and the Kluber grease separately if nobody is selling a complete kit.

You will want new bolts for the booth, the old ones sreetchand when reused they often bite into the booth housing and ruin it, it will be er seal grease will be thrown. There is also bearing in there that can be replaced.

When the car is hot and operating temperature and you shut down do you get a rattle sound from your flywheel? If not it may be something else.

Yes, I get the rattle sound and it's hard to start. Two folks in the know have heard it and said it's the grease issue. Thank you for the O-ring sizes that helps a lot! Hoping I can order the bolts from McMaster-Carr. Best Regards, MaseratiSD

If you try and goggle vendors all that is out there are the MD CLUTCH folks in the UK who went bankrupt. They did lots of videos, very helpful if you can get all the parts, but I have not found a complete parts list here in Ferrari Chat. Several people mention replacing the bolts, but no mention of the exact size.

    best regards, MaseratSD

The bolt issue is not dimeter and thread pitch, that's all normal fare, can be found at home depot. The issue is length, 3 threads too many and it will bite into the voith and crack/ crush it and it will never seal and you will throw grease. In theory you could reuse the original bolts, or get new longer ones and grind down to length. Its entirely possible its a standard length bolt too, never checked I just bought new ones from MD back when.

BTW the bolts are different for Single vs Double plate clutch set ups.

Actually they had a death of one of the 2 partners who was the engineer and the other one was retirement aged as well so he decided it was enough and shut down the business if I recall.
