I was thinking about this topic this weekend:

Looking at specific models, How do we know how many remain after years of people crashing them, burning them up, stolen and chopped, or just were broke beyond repair and broken down to parts?

So let's say the 308, 328, 355, 360, 430, 599, 612, these are no longer in production, but are not really "vintage" models.

For the 599, 3500 GTB units were produced, how many remain?

Great question; I've always wondered what Ferrari's typical 'decay' factor was.

I guess no one will really know. But with production numbers for the newer and new ones I'd say the number of Ferrari's on earth is increasing steadily.

Porsche says 70 percent of its cars produced since 1948 are still on the road.

Ferraris tend to see far lower use, so my guess would be >70 percent. Any Ferrari from the pre-Fiat era is a solid six- or seven-figure collectible and they have been for years. Even with the modern cars, they tend not to be daily drivers.

Interesting question- Ferrari probably doesn’t have the detailed records of the type Porsche kept, but I’ll defer to the experts…
