I am flying in to view what could be my first Ferrari. I wanted to know if anyone has had any experience with Master Auto Technician, LLc or Luciano A-1 Auto Technician? They are located in Sarasota, FL. Any information would help. The car has little in the way of documentation. Is that bad? I have heard documentation is huge, is it that important? I have read as many Buyer's Guides as I could find and have spoken to members of the local Ferrari club, but I just don't feel comfortable yet.

What are you looking to buy?

Documentation is important, especially for resale, so no documentation = lower price when you buy, but you can expect to put the savings into maintenance and repairs, so it is kind of a trade off. A PPI from a reputable shop who is NOT the shop that took care of the car is critical.

personal view on documentation is simple: if the car doesn't have documentation buy something else. You will take a hit on this car when you get ready to resale, and that's providing it doesn't soak you on maintenance/repairs in the meantime. There is no trade off for lack of records. The first thing implied is that previous owners didn't care enough about the car to take care of it.

If you would like an unbiased opinion on the car you can take it to Steve Smith at Twin Cam Sportscars on Deacon Rd. His number is 941-923-0024. He is primarily a British car guy but is very competent in Ferrari speak as well. He has taken care of all my unusual cars as well as race cars for 20+ years. He's a great guy as well.

I was looking at a 355 in that area 3 years ago and contacted Luciano about it. He was very helpful and willing to do the PPI but after checking the service records found the car did not have the service that was reported being done I got my deposit back from the seller.
The 355 I finally bought had a great service record and when I took her to the Cavallino in WPB she even got a Platinum award. The service records are very important as far as your future life with an F car.
