Does anyone know this 308?

    This is an 85 308 that I am considering. It serial number is ZFFUA13A5F0055899. I have done carfax and autocheck on the car and learned that it had 23,000 miles on it in 1999. It is purported to have just over 26,000 miles now, 8 years later. Either it was a garage queen for all those years, or the milage is not correct. The dealer has absolutely no records on the car. The dealer discourages a pre purchase inspection done at a local garage and will not let the car leave his lot!! I know, that fact kinda speaks for itself. There is no way I will go near this car unless I can verify its history.

    Ferrari Market letter has a record of the car being offered by Joe Manrcetti in chicago in 1988. The dealer who has the car told me that he got if from a dealr in Vegas. The dealer however has made other claims that when examined, turned out to be untrue. The carfax history shows that the car passed emissions test in Ft Lauderdale twice in 1999. I am a bit puzzled by that information, since I did not think we had emissions testing in Florida. I do know that the car was not titled in Florida.

    If anyone has any information about the history of this car, I would appreciate hearing from you, preferably by private message on this site.

    Pretty car, looks like mine (so I might be biased). If the dealer is already giving you lies and preventing a PPI I would be very wary about the car. The mileage thing is no entirely unbelievable as the car really could have been sitting around on lots or in garages for most of the last few years. See if a knowledgeable Fchatter or mechanic can go over and drive and examine the car to get at least some idea of its true condition. Otherwise, unless it is very reasonably priced I'd keep looking as it probably needs quite a bit of expensive catch-up maintenance.

    This is the right answer.

    If that car had had a fastidious owner, the dealer would be shoveling a binder full of records at you trumpeting the thorough major service and encouraging you to have a mechanic check it over.

    Honestly... Las Vegas, Florida Chicago ... sounds like a mystery car that has slept around a bit.

    Jon is right, of course, but I bet he still gave a moment's thought to acquiring a nice nero 308. Hell, I did and I already have one that looks exactly like the one in the pic (minus the shields). My wife would definitely **** if I went and picked up another one as she already doesn't like the one I have.

    I believe you could have it inspected to your satisfaction, and negotiate down a bit on the price. Not the best model year, but probably the best colors for a 308, and knowing Jim I don't think he would be handling it if it wasn't a good car. That said, if it's not what you want, good luck with your search.
