I've been looking for a QV for a little while and came across this ad. Disregarding the price, this car looks incredible. Is it someone's here? 1978 Ferrari 308GTS Spider RESTORED Ground Up for sale | Hemmings Motor News Image Unavailable, Please Login
I kind-a love it. Assuming all the finishes and platings are correct this car may prove to be an exceptional buy.
Valve covers are gloss red, fender vents are black, exhaust shield looks mirror glossy, etc. Not close to correct.
Its nice looking, but Jon's right. This car is far from correct. I don't see the point in redoing the suspension and other parts in the incorrect finishes. Also wonder there the choke lever is, or if they just used replica inserts without paying attention to getting the right ones. Whatelse was missed or improperly done? What will it cost to correct? Personal liberties are fine, but its a "customized" rather than a "restored" car. Pay accordingly.
For a "restoration," paint is WRONG. Perhaps a minor detail to the "driver" buyer, but at concours prices, a critical misstep. For that year, the lower rocker should be painted body color, and the windshield and B-pillar ahead of the quarter glass louvers should be black - not body color. They did a QV paint scheme on a carb car.
Why did a 2300 mile car need a ground up restoration, correct or not? Questions abound. Reading the entire add makes me wonder if whoever did this had any idea of what they were doing.
I wonder why someone would go to the trouble of this depth of "restoration" but get so many things wrong?
