Dave, I personally would not get an F355 with an F1 transmission. I love the F1 in my 360. The shifting is very different. The F1 in the F355 does not have rev matching on downshifts (increased clutch wear). I have known on my car that the transmission shifts very differently in regular vs. sport mode. If he wants an F1, I would get a 2002 or later 360. If he wants an F355, get a stick. Good luck.

Also, remember that it isn't the miles but the time frame of the services. The ad didn't identify the dates of the services. I would ask for those records as well. Having owned (and still do) a 97 355b, they are wonderful cars but you want to know the service records are up to date. I just had a recall done at Ferrari of Silicon Valley last week. These things come up from time to time.

I don't recognize the specific car, or the username? I also own a 355 in the SJ area and LOVE it. Mine's a GTS owned since 2001. I now have 45K miles on mine and have had a few repairs. An F1 on a 355 is somewhat dicey. If the F1 controller dies, its a $16K part, I hear? In adding up the maintainence expenses quoted on eBay, I only see $28K of expenses, NOT $40K? At 30K miles/+/-, you do have to pony up for a major service, and take care of normal stuff that breaks. 355s have issues with headers, fans, valve guides ($$$), tranny linkage seals, the well-known sticky interior bits, and airbag control modules from my experience. I personally don't care for 360/430 styling, and think the 355 is one of the best Ferrari performance values at the moment (with the possible exception of the 550 Maranello). Looks clean, although they skillfully avoided any photos of the driver's seat bolster.
