What's an Alpha? I thought the first was the 125S in '47.

The first Ferrari (Badged as such) was a 125 as was the second. Both were scrapped by Ferrari. There are some who feel the repaired chassis of the first Ferrari was reused to build a 166 I at a later date and some who feel that didn't happen.

The third Ferrrari badged as such, the first one sold by Ferrari and the first major race winner (Turin GP) was a 159 Spyder Corsa later bored out to a 166 Spyder Corsa by Ferrari. That one still exists.

I believe that the first car produced under a private banner by Enzo Ferrari was the Auto Avio Costruzioni Tipo 815, designed by Carrozzeria Touring in 1940. There were only two.

Enzo couldnt use his own name due to binding contracts by Alfa Romeo; so he began using the banner AAC. If I am not mistaken it raced in the 1940 Mille Millia under Ascari and Rangoni. The only one out of the two built that is still in existance (I think) is chassis no. 815/021...

After the 815, Ferrari began using his own name and produced the 125 Sport in 1947 (S/n 010I). The second F-Car was the 159 Sport also in 1947 (chassis no. 03C and 04C).

If I am not mistaken, Jim's Spyder Corsa is no. 002C... To the non uber-Ferrari-geeks, this would make it the oldest known Ferrari existing today with the exception of 815 no. 815/021... ;)

... However, this is - very technicaly - the first 'F-Car'...

    Kind Regards,
    -Jon

The first car badged as a Ferrari was 125 01C (010I is a 166I built at a later date. Some believe 010I utilized the chassis of 01C and was re/overstamped 010I others don't) The 815 came before but as noted wasn't badged as a Ferrari.

I have sat in the AC 815 that Enzo built for Ascari. It resides in a huge and very significant private collection in Italy. The owner has driven the car in the Mille Miglia Storica at least once fairly recently. Other F-car stablemates include Gilles Villeneuve F1, a Monza 750, Daytona, and a 4-cam.

The Villaneuve car is new this year. Pretty impressive collection in a beautiful castle-like villa outside of Modena.
