If you mean TruGreen/ChemLawn, I can wholehearted say "no".

Regardless of where you live, they will spray whatever is in the truck when they come to your neighborhood. If you neighbor needs "X" application, but you need "Y", you'll get whatever they loaded into the truck that morning. In my experience the techs are not knowledgeable about lawn diseases and conditions, nor do they have a deep understanding of soil analysis.

I used them for a while in NC, but was very unhappy with the results. Now, I use a local company that spends a serious amount of time analyzing what my lawn and landscape needs, then ordering exactly for my situation -- not the 'next company'. It is frightfully expensive, but the results have been astounding in 3 years of 12/month service.

My suggestion? Go look for the best residential lawn in town you can find. See who maintains their lawn. Or, go by a commercial property with some outstanding landscape and inquire who they use.

I used them in the past (3 years ago) and I was EXTREMELY unhappy and stopped using their service. The person that called me and told me he was at my neighbors home (which is very nice) and gave me the whole sales pitch. I met with him and explained that I was not happy with their service in the past he told me that they are under new management and blah blah blah. He spent around an hour walking my lawn with me and pointing our all the different weeds and explained how they are going to treat it.

There is no contract and it is on a per application payment. The cost is $45 per lawn and $45 for trees and shrubs. I have around 2000 square feet of lawn and have:

Front = 3 fox palms / 3 alexander palms / xoria / ficus hedges and ground cover
Rear = 9 coconut palms and tons of ficus hedges

Stay away from them: I have used them in the past and had to terminate them.
They do not know what they are doing and are truly bad news.

What you say must be true, because first I had weeds doing better than ever and when I complained that their treatment was ineffective, they must have used Agent Orange, as in no time there was nothing growing anymore and defoliated even the ficus plants.

I used to work for them for 3 years quite a few years ago and I can say that I did an EXCELLENT job for all my customers and each lawn was a diff application. In short, it definitely will depend on the lawn 'technician' that gets your lawn in his route. It's all about the guy, the products are good if used properly. Problem is, many techs don't care enough to do it right.

Also something to consider is that much of your success in maintaining your lawn weed-free depends on how good your lawn mowing service is. If your lawn service cuts lawns that are weed-infested and then cuts yours, chances are they're contributing to your weed issues as well. That's another reason why I cut my own (like Alfredo) - I can keep the blade sharp, and I also appreciate that I haven't had to repair any sprinkler heads in the 2 years since I went back to doing it myself.

I'm with Alfredo and Griff, I do my own. I use Lesco fertilizer on the tress and palms and fertilize the grass with Scotts, Bonus S in the Winter and Southern Turfbuilder the rest of the year. I do have a crew come in twice a year for major tree trimming and replanting.

I do my own weed control and fertilizing. I gave up the mowing and edging a few years ago and am really happy with the service I have. I know a great sprinkler repair guy who lives in Fort Lauderdale if anyone needs someone to go through their system. He did my entire yard repair including about 10 rotor heads, moved some heads, reglued the whole indexing valve for around $250 plus the cost of the new heads (straight reimbursement). He charges $25 per hour, and shows up!!!
I get the fertilizer striaght from the Lesco place. They give me the wholesale price, and I usually buy about 300-500 pounds at a time, which is good for about a year or so.

Back in the day when I was doing my own lawn (did it for twenty+ years) I used Sunnyland products that I purchased at the local Green Thumb home center. There are many types from quick/slow release to weed and feed. I can honestly say that the product out performed any Lesco or Turf Builder product.

When I built my new home a few years back on an acre+ lot, I hired a landscape company that took over from that point on and made them use Sunnyland on the lawn and a couple of other palm and tree food brands for the foliage. The product is pretty expensive (each feeding costs around $700-800 due to the large area) but the product has never burned the lawn or failed in any way. I would highly recommend.

If you want a top quality company that will fertilize and spray for bugs on your lawn, trees and shrubs I suggest you use Middleton. Their pricing is reasonable but the results are top notch. I'm a nut when it comes to the look of my yard and I have been very happy with them. Their number is 866-FLA-FROG.

LOL, ye I've had a few but I'm an old **** so......

McDonald's cook, Paper routes, building/groundsman at a college, painter, Lawn services, auto mechanic (went to college for it), waiter, actor, computer salesman, mtg broker, stock broker trainee, car business, homeless dude (is that a profession?) , poker, writer, coach/trainer... that's about it I guess.

On the topic of lawns though, dry products are typically better than the liquid products. Apply with a good rotary spreader.

I use Scotts, just substitute them for TruGreen/CemLawn and I can whole heartedly say "no" as well with the exact same feedback. Looks like it will be back to Home Depot for me soon. The lawn service is holding their own for now.

You know certain Federal agencies get nervous when they see individuals buying 300-500 pounds of fertilizer...

I had TruGreen/Chemlawn...useless. I stopped the service mid-contract stating the service has done NOTHING...they didn't argue and cancelled the contract.

Bill, I had the same experience with Scotts.
After their salesman give you the sales pitch and they make you believe they have it down to a science, you decide to give them a try and then, they send in the first bozo they picked up from the street.....
Home Depot in the end looks pretty good to me.

Robert, I find that just going out to the yard to take my daily crap does the lawn fertilization just fine. One has to judiciously space each event so as to not overload a single area with all of those nutrients.

Best if the neighbors can not see you.
