I was watching an episode of What's my Car Worth and they were discussing a 328 GTS with 25K and a Certification from Ferrari. The car hammered at $55K. Since they made a point of mentioning the Certification, I'm was curious how much impact that had on price. The car was very clean and white, of all colors. It got me thinking about how this may influence prices on the early model TR's that are approaching 30 years. Any thoughts? Asking because going to be in the market shortly.

The cost of the certification for the TR is $5000. I was thinking about it myself but I don't think you would recoup the investment at the sale. For now!

    for what a certification??? :( :( :(

a lot of money for a paper what says what the owner itself knows before. so a good money income for F for doing not much.

for those who are collecting and never driving the cars may be ok, but not for cars still driving around.

a good mechanic and specialist see if the car is ok or not. and who cares about 100% original?

if it would be a very rare car - then ok
but all cars after 1985 are produced so much - except the supercars of course - that this money would be better spend for a new diff :)

Agreed. I dont need to pay some mechanic, to say I have a really nice original car. I already know that, that is why I bought the one I own :)

Whether you should get your car Classiched really depends on what you have to start with. If you have a higher mileage driver quality car, the certification probably is not going to do terribly much, nor is it likely to do much even if you have a really nice car. However, IMHO, if you have an exceptional low mileage collector quality car, the classiche cert will add to the provenance and only be more appealing to collectors. This is especially true if you are trying to fetch top dollar.

FWIW, my car has been classiched. I loved the process and the beautiful presentation book with the letter hand signed by Piero is pretty cool too.

I inquired at 3 different dealers and they are all the same. Around $5000.

Maybe wait until the end of the year. I have heard from others that the dealers have an annual quota which is difficult to reach. Call in November or December and haggle.

The problem with the certificate is unless you sell the car immediately after it means pretty much nothing down the road.

So the Clasique Certification process just certifies that a person owns a verified model XXX? For $5K? They check the VIN and verify that everything is Ferrari and not molested or replica?

I can see its value on Uber rare models, but not the TR. At least not the average TR....M maybe.

and when those certifiers get knowledge that there is in an other diff they refuse the classiche certification because it is not original, but even better than.
    even with the fuse box

Even on an M, it doesn't seem necessary as a 512TR updated to M-look would be obvious from the year of construction...

An M has a really limited production run and also the 512 TR is with its 2.000 units
really small to the standard today.

I think round about 3.000 Euro is a lot of money but i would like to spend them for that
    classiche package.

.... The flying mirror is also really limited to around 1500 units or so.

    It's also the best :D

No insults intended, just my opinion :) Just to clarify my definition of a really nice car (which is mine and definitely collector quality) My car has all original paint (excellent condition), original interior (never dyed and perfect bolsters) 6K miles, Tools, books, luggage, window sticker etc. etc. etc. car shows as new. When I was shopping(6 - 7 years ago) I only wanted the best example available. I looked at several national level platinum winning TR's. They were not quite up to the level I expected from such an award. Needless to say I passed on them, found and purchased what I have. The classiche IMHO is just a piece of paper (just like a platinum) that at the moment of payment says (in the opinion of the provider) is in a certain condition. After that it is any ones guess on how the car is maintained and kept. Thanks, but I will save my money :)

Fwiw, your car would be a perfect classiche candidate ;)

However, since they don't pay me a commission for promoting the service, I am just sharing my opinion. Believe me, if every single f-chatter thinks it is a total screwing, I am not losing any sleep!

Sounds like you and I have similar cars. There are worst things to disagree about then should we get a classiche service on our testarossas! :)

I agree, so to classiche or not to classiche....that is the question :) But I do know two mirrors are better than one :)

Actually, it's on the average cars you would the certification more than on a cherry car.

This does not effect the classic certification.

Nobody is ripping apart the car to check the diff - that's not part of the validation process.

It's to validate that the trans/engine/ chassis and other parts are original key markings to the car for production.

Joe can explain further the key points since he has gone through the process.
