Does the GTS flex when top is off. I mean like does it twist and rattle over bumps where the car feels cheap? Also with the top on does it rattle or squeak? I would prefer a GTS but trying to gauge if I need to get a Berlinetta for these reasons...

I have a GTS, asnd the answer to both is yes. With the roof off it adds a remarkable driving experience but unfortunatly it does have some flex and the top does squeak. Does it cause the car to feel cheap, no its not that bad but compared to a modern performance car there is some twist.

There's a lot of myth and not a lot of fact as evidenced by no-one replying when you asked this last week

Do you like fresh air and do lots of track days ? If so buy a GTS and put the roof in for track days

my gts both 328 and 348 squeaked and rattled and leaked like a wooden boat.
both cars had less than 25K on them.
I did find some stuff from porsche that stopped the squeaking and adjustments stopped the some of the rattling NOTHING stopped the leaking
but I wouldn't let that bother you, i'd still buy a gts they great to drive in with the top off.

have to say I did buy a spider, it does non of the above.....

the top on my '93 TS speciale is rarely on in the summer and I don't hear any annoying squeaks from it. It feel pretty solid as well.

That being said - I know it's flexing --- put the top on and you can hear it then. I expected anything without a solid top would have some flex -- especially given the fact the car is almost 20 years old now.

I try to avoid driving with the top on ... I want to hear her sing when I'm driving.

Has it always been this way or did you do something to stop the squeaks? My top does not rattle but you can hear the flexing when the roof is on. I have used silicone, grease etc but nothing seems to help. Its really not a huge issue but if it can be fixed that would be nice.

You need to buy what your heart desires otherwise you'll never be happy with the car.
Is this really the car you want?

GTS is definitely not as stiff as the b, but it's not bad even by today's convertible standards. And with the top off...

I have heard 348 tops leak bad. Not so with 355 tops - mine is great.

The primary noise comes from the clamps at the front of the roof. I find a tiny smear of silicone grease on each side stops this. Even without it, it only makes noise when the car is really being twisted, like going into a driveway at an angle.

Normal driving doesn't cause mine to make noise but like others it does when going into my driveway. Mine leaks a tiny bit where the drivers side window intersects with the front of the targa but then again I was using a pressured spray of water when that happened, and it was a very small leak.

When I went to purchase my 355 I test drove several convertibles, targas and a coupe.
The convertibles had some distinctive rustling behind the rear firewall with the to up when driving on rougher pavement, with the top down not very noticeable.
The targas had some rustling in the rear when driving on rougher pavement and rattles at the front latches when turning slowly into driveways with the targa panel on.
With the targa panel off I barely noticed any noises at all.
The coupe was rock solid and this is what I bought.

When you cut the roof off any car it will twist......rattle.......if this is a deal breaker then you should look for a coupe.
I know everytime the targa latches made noise my eyes were immediately drawn to the location.

It depends how much the noise bothers you.

My NSX Targa had no noises or leaks with top on. But I did feel flex with top off but this was ok because the fun in the sun was worth it. But if it also made noises and shook with top on that would be irritating.

I'm going to have to drive both. This will be a challenge because there usually isn't two for sale at same time near me!

All 348/55 are flexi flyers. The 355C has extra plates in the front shock area to mitigate. Rollcage to the shock towers make a huge huge difference in chassis reaction. Ideal non-tube frame 348/55 variant racecar would be 355spyder with its beefier sill boxes and full cage to the suspension and a carbon bolt on roof.

I have a Berlinetta and the car feels like it's cut from a solid chunk of steel compared to any other car I've driven. I honestly can't imagine driving a car as performance-oriented as the 355 with a chassis that is significantly less rigid than a B, or one that squeaks all the time. I've never driven a Spider or GTS, so I'm curious to see what others who have been fortunate enough to drive a few Spiders, GTS, and B's at speed will say.

(Namely, the Ferrari mechanics and racers!)

This whole flex/noise thing has already gone too far in my opinion. I own and drive a GTS and yes it squeaks a very little bit when encountering uneven surfaces but so does my sedan. As for flex...common... On the street it's an irrelevant issue and I bet at the track it makes very little difference in time.
I guess I don't understand what the OP is trying to obtain... I knew I loved the Ferrari 355 since my youth and that's all that mattered not rather it squeaked from time to time. Evoking it seems like your trying to find reasons not to buy a 355. Seriously if your this picky about choosing one now there is no way in hell you’re going to be happy with a 355, maybe not any Ferrari.

    Well said!

Mine squeaks a very little but only driving on uneven surface(turning into a driveway on an angle). But before reading this thread it was never a problem and thought of nothing of it. After reading it makes it look like a huge problem. Which it is not.

At the end of the day, all targa's and all spiders in all current models of Ferrari's or any cars do flex more then their same coupe's. But those coupes cant take the roof off can they? Is it bad, in my opinion no, do you feel it? well..... Ive never driven the same model in taga/coupe before. So..... I dont know.

But, the best thing with a Targa is hearing the engine. Is amazing. Driving into a tunnel with the roof off. Priceless :D

I have no problem with mine. You will hear a lot other of other things

I think the GTS is a really good solution, you get nice looking coupe but can take the roof of.

    Amen!

All the other noises I hear offset any squeaking she makes. The only "squeak" that bothers me is the whine from the gear shift which is getting sorted shortly.

Maybe a T-top TransAm would have less give. Just a thought.

Guys, read my title. I asked "Does GTS flex". Not "Does 355 flex". As in I'm trying to decide which 355 is best for me. Anyone that has owned convertible cars or targas know that is a fair question. My 95 SL500 flexed something firece. My S2000 didn't. Too much flex - the kind where you feel a wiggle or shudder through out the whole car is the kind I hate. Not so much sweating the softened turn-in when top is off.

The feedback helps and is much appreciated. Hopefully I will find two nearby to drive!
