When I ordered my 2008 Porsche Cayman S, I wanted it protected from road debris so I had a clear bra installed on the entire front end. After almost 3 years and about 17,000 miles, I'm happy to see that the paint finish is still pristine and there's no evidence of road `rash'. There a few minor areas where the clear bra did what it's supposed to do, namely protect the paint finish from scratches, dings, etc. So it was well worth the price.

Now I have this 1971 Dino 246GT that cost me twice as much as the Porsche and although it will be driven only 1-2k miles per year, I wonder if it should be fitted for a clear bra.

    Any opinions?

The clear bra on the hood, fenders/ front end makes the front end look like its been painted, creates a slight mismatch in color. Better in areas where your eye doesn't see it. My opinion.

Maybe, you are not going fast enough yet ? Believe me, when you surpass certain point, it makes no difference. Maybe a change in paradigm would help. w/ smiles Jimmy

if the paint is pristine, wrap the whole car. expensive, but you will not regret it and you will drive the car a lot more.

Car was repainted a couple years ago (in Fly Yellow...its original color), but only a few hundred miles put on it since.

The clear bra for front end of my Cayman cost ~$2.5k, so I can't even imagine how expensive it would be to wrap a whole Dino.

every one missed the major point on his post, he plans on only driving the car 1-2k miles a year, isn't there a law against that ? I thought we all had to drive our cars a LOT :)

Since everyone is offering to help you drive your car, I will do one better. I will drive my Dino up and we can trade cars for a day or 2 :)

It might depend on where and how you plan to drive the car.
If you plan to drive it on freeways that carry a lot of gravel hauling trucks, it might be a good idea. (But then your windshield will probably be damaged, too.) If not, and you drive it on Sundays and keep a good distance between you and the car ahead, so any pebbles thrown up have time to fall back to the ground, the disadvantages would probably outweigh the risk of getting significant chips.

Also, I seem to recall some cases where when you take the bra off some areas of paint come with it.

I've decided to go the conservative route and will save my money for ongoing maintenance or repairs (I already have a few things in mind) and just keep my distance...no tailgating gravel trucks on the highway.

Bottom line, my Dino will go braless.
