I have heard a lot about the 355 valve guide and ex manifold issues. Does the 348 have any design issues to watch out for? Your help would be appriciated from a future 348 owner. TIA

I am only aware of the severe lack of horsepower, side strakes and the rear tail light panel make it less than desirable ;) A well sorted 355 is far superior :D :D :D

Now funnily enough I reckon this question has been asked before in lots of different ways - and quite often answered as above by the crueller members of this community !

Meanwhile as suggested in most of the other threads start learning www.the348.com

Not much. 348 exhaust ecu's need to be hand-coated with silicone by each new 348 owner, though (to keep out moisture that would otherwise trigger a false positive "SLOW DOWN" light warning).

The OEM fluids in 348's need to be upgraded from AGIP rubbish to Red Line (75w90NS for tranny, 5w40 for engine, 50/50 Prestone pre-mix + Red Line's Water Wetter for coolant).

Old 348 light bulbs in several places could stand to be upgraded to LED's, too.

    funny you should mention that.
I'm getting that slow down thing on one bank every now and again.

I did by the way fix that rattling flywheel.

The darn power steering hasn’t worked on either of the two 348’s I’ve owned!
All kidding a side, most 348 “flaws” in my mind are
Reasonable in money terms to correct, if you can do it yourself. Most if not all 348 up-dates can be completed by a novice. Dave

    I have a Eurospec 348TS,from Switzerland,Im hanging beside 355's and then some,not really lack of horsepower,but just like anything else,if it's over 10-15 years old,they all have some issues..my 2 cents..

348s are driven only by the most intelligent, good-looking, and modest Ferrari owners. Is perfection a flaw? Did I mention modest?

The 348 doesn't have any design flaws - just ask any biased 348 owner !!!

Probably mentioned already, but the big design flaw is the single timing belt design - a failure/seizure anywhere along the path can result in major engine damage; same sticky plastic interior parts problems as 355; same C-pillar stress cracking; ECU issue noted above; and 348s tend to go through catalytic converters (I was told by a local Ferrari tech) due to the proximity to the engine.

The other flaw was having Italians build the car, but other Ferraris have this as well. ;)

the abs and traction control come on a bit late and the 6th gear is in an awkward place

    Funny!

However, the ABS is fine. No traction control or 6th gear, though!

I do like the manual steering idea, has anyone put a 355 motor in a 348??
