    Hi Guys,

I have been trying to look and feel underneath my steering wheel/column to see if the steering wheel can be adjusted for tilt/height. There seems to be some kind of latch there, but I could be wrong. Anyway, it doesn't budge, and I don't want to use excessive force to find out if I am wrong!

Do you guys know if it's adjustable?

    Thanks!

Yes. Pull DOWN the latch to release the mechanism. The wheel can then be adjusted up & down. Close the latch back to the column to lock in place.

I looked underneath the column, and you're right, I should be able to pull down the lever. Only problem is, it's pushed up so tight, I can't pull it down. I tried using a steel bar to lever it down against the column casing, but it won't budge and I don't want to damage it, the lever started to deflect to the right - that's how tight it is.

I might have to take out all the column trims to find a way of levering it down without breaking anything!

See if you can squirt some PB blaster on the mechanism under the steering column to loosen it up a little, and try again in a day or two.

Went to spray some WD40 on the threads, but suddenly I had an idea. I took an adjustable crescent wrench, lined the jaws with a cloth, and adjusted it down so that I could slot the flat area of the level into the wrench. At first I didn't think it could get in, which is why I didn't try it earlier in the first place, but I found the right angle this time and managed to pull the lever down.

    Hooray!

Now I have adjustable height for the steering wheel, finally!

    Thanks guys.

+1 .......... I always thought the 348 was too 'manly' to have a 'hair gel' feature like 'tilt steering wheel' ............... ;)

I think tonight I'll just spend a couple of joyous hours tilting the wheel! Does it have a belt that needs changing?

Yeah, now I can see the dials. Previously, it was in the low position, the steering wheel was obscuring the top portion of the tach and speedometer.

You're right there, Goth, but at least they knew that 'real men' wouldn't buy a 348 if they put power steering on it :D ;)
