was wondering if the 355GTS was reinforced from the factory to compensate for removal of the roof? I remembered the when Honda released the Targa NSX, the entire car was reinforced significantly. Any thoughts and comments on this? Thanks!

One way to tell would be to find reliable & comparable data on the kerb weight of a GTS vs a GTB. The Ferrari owner site reports a kerb weight of 1,350 kg (2,976 lbs) for the GTS, sounds very low and hardly believable.

Purists will tell you that there is more chassis flex than on a GTB, and there probably is, even with the roof on.
Is it significant ? Not in my opinion. You get some interior squeaks now and then (but coupes squeak as well), but the chassis feels taut and precise.
If you are considering a GTS and the fabulous upside of a hard top convertible, I would not worry at all about that.

The #1 downside of a GTS is the shortened legroom when the roof is stored behind the seats. Beyond, it's all pleasure.

I had a 355 GTS but sold it for a GTB for the 3 simple reasons: 1. The roof squeaked and made strange noises when the car was left under the hot sun. 2. It leaked!!!! When it rained very heavily. 3. Lower headroom about an inch compared to the B.

    Just my experience....

    1. do not park your car under the hot sun. besides it fades the paint and ruin the leather.

    2. dry use only. fancy sport drive car when it rains? go for a Porsche carrera 4 (if turbo is better)

    3. good point. how tall are you?

I owned a GTS. First, yes it does leak a little in heavy rain. The squeaks are two main things the one is if you store your car the rubber drys out, the other is if you park your car in the hot sun it will also dry out. So if you apply some 3M rubber lubericate it takes care of the squeaks. I usually applied it when I cleaned my car. Ultimately you can never completely remove the squeaks. You will have to deal with it. But I found it was only really bad if I did apply the 3M or if I drove down a really bad road.

But I put up with some of the squeaks, because when it was a beautiful day there was no greater fun I could have had driving. Having the roof off was always terrific. I chose the GTS because I loved the look of the F355 coupe but loved the open air. For all you spyder owners. I love the spyder when the roof was down but not when it was up. And as I do not live in Cal. I chose the GTS.

Putting the roof behind the seats was not so bad. It did lose a little space but nothing as bad as the 348 or the 308/328. Being a tall guy it makes a differnce. I did wish the 360 came in GTS as well. But oh well.

    Happy driving

    I would think so.

I have driven a few over the years and they do rattle a little.

    Still killer looking though.
