Mine works great! I have a late '88 TR and it will freeze your fingers off; better than my '95 Camaro. And GM is known for powerful A/C.

Part of the heat build-up with the 308/328s and the BB is the location of the radiators in the nose of the car. The oil and coolant lines run below the passenger compartment and those radiate heat into the cabin from the floor. Plus, the hot air exiting the radiators flows under the cabin, which doesn't help in hot weather.

Eliminating that problem was one of the key design goals for the TR. The solution was to move the radiators back on either side of the engine and behind the cabin, just like in Ferrari racing cars. That configuration, along with the width of the boxer engine, made the TR over 6' - 6" wide in the rear. The rear mounted radiators also required the addition of the strakes to guide cooling air through them. So this one design solution led directly to the most iconic features of the car: low, super wide with deep strakes along the doors.

An added benefit was to free up the nose for a decent sized trunk, which was another frequent request from customers. Earlier cars had to make room for the radiators up there.

    Hope this helps.

I could be wrong about this, but I believe the side strakes on the TR was an answer for pedestrian safety from some standard. If the the TR side swiped a pedestrian the large gaping opening would do more human damage. Also the strakes act as side door guard beams.

    Hello All,

Our last summer was the hottest on record. I was driving on a really hot day with temps near 100. My AC ran fine, but it still felt warm inside. All I needed to do was roll the window down to find out that my AC was working better than I thought.

Both answers are correct. During aerodynamic testing they found the inclusion of the deep strikes separated the airflow and reduced turbulence. The additional shallow strakes are there to meet European pedestrian safety standards.

I live in Louisiana and I drive my TR reguarly in the summer months and do not have any complaints about the A/C. I previously had a 308 QV and the a/c in it was nonexistent as far as I was concerned.
