The funny thing was that the 996 TT the Ferarri owner was ragging on has about 600 hp and 600 ft lbs of torque.

Anyway, here is the story. It is second hand so may or may not be true.

Dropped my car off at The Collection this morning after installing my refinished wheels (pics to follow). While I was their a guy walks up to me and says " That will be the day" I respond 'What do you mean" ? That a Porsche turbo will be a ferrari eater (4RE ETR). So I start laughing and he responds that he just bought a 360 with a high performance exhaust, and he would walk all over my car. Then I really started laughing, so I told him lets go right now and he responds later because the car is still in the showroom. I told him, even a totally stock turbo will kill the 360. He told me that I had no clue what I was talking about. He also stated that Ferrari has the best technology ever engineered in any car and thats why Ferrari is World Champion.

Ah , well, if he hasn't figured it out yet, he will when he hits the street.

BTW, the story is second hand. It did not happen to me. Just amazed. Seems like one having $ 200 large to sepnd on a car would have a clue about: (1) the cars performance; and (2) the performance of other options out there.

Judgment clouded by passion. I dunno.

I was out at the local strip and track about 2 years ago after rebuilding the top end of my Ruf with titanium this titanium that and spending more than I care to mention to squeeze that last bit of power out of that 1990 NA 3.8 liter motor.

That day, I dynoed it and then I made a 1/4 mile run. Then pulls up this rather beaten Honda Civic and he throws down a sub 10 second quarter mile. Smoked my Ruf.

I thought it rather cool what this kid had done.

Anyway, I don't **** talk any car especially if I don't know what it had under the hood.

Doug, good story and good lesson. Yeah, in this day and age, its best to never expect anything to be what it seems. btw, what did the 3.8 dyno and how was your 1/4?

Dyno was around 310 hp and 278 torque so I should be in the 350 flywheel horsepower range. I think that was on a Dynojet dyno. I think I was runing 12.2s or 12.3s. Been a while. The car is really set up for track and other than a few G-Techs here and there when tweaking settings, I don't really take it to the strip for 1/4 mile times.

I like to follow a lot of car boards. 50% of posters on many boards seem to feel personally threatened if someone's car is faster than theirs. Half the guys on a particular M3 board go to full battle alert and start spouting nurburgring times if someone posts that their 996, 993, STi, S4 etc. is faster than an M3.

I don't give a rat's ass that a well driven V6 accord can keep up with me in many situations. I love my car. I love driving my car. I love the way it looks and the way it sounds. It thrills me to bury the throttle and bang the gearshift through the metal gates. If your car is faster than mine - that's great. I'm a car nut and I respect all high performance cars, but it doesn't affect me or my love for my car. My sense of self worth is developed elsewhere.

It is usually the **** talkers who are compensating for something else or who had to get his second choice because he couldn't afford choice # 1 so he bashes choice # 1 to feel good about his purchase.

If 0 - 60 speed was what it was all about, everyone would own vettes, M3s or those Subaru things (WRX) or whatever they are called. Or we could buy some of the new things like the Chrysler 300 or new Cadillac, M5, or these other American eye sores wherein they stuff huge V-8s so they can advertise incredible 0 - 60 times. Great, a 5,000 missle with piss poor brakes that could not swerve quickly to miss something in its path.

I have been there and done that with BMW, Audi, Infiniti, Acura, Lexus and Toyato. My worst experience was by far with several BMWs. Luckily, they are so ugly now it is not difficult to stay away from them. Does seem like the BMW and Vette crowds are the most "outspoken."

My heart is with Italian cars. I, however, like to have multiple cars as opposed to one or two very expensive cars like a new Murci, CGT or even a new 430 spider. If I was rich, I would have an Enzo, Murci and use a CGT as my every day driver. I ain't rich though.

For me, the 996 TT cabriolet is a great compromise as an every day driver and still leaves me with enough change for a Ruf, a 355 and few other toys in the garage.

Who cares what is on you plate as long as you like it. I don't have personalized plates, but my wife had "10" when I met her. After two kids and 14 years, she had to trade it in . . .

With that I would agree. Speaking of which, why don't you fill out your profile if you are such a big time operator.

I've owned, and do own, Porsches and Ferraris. Both great cars.

It's hard to see what meaningful point you're making by posing the question: "Does this 360 owner have more $$$ than sense."

    A. You were not there.
    B. Who cares if he has more $$$ than sense. In fact, good for him!
    C. I'm sure lot's of Porsche owners have more $$$ than sense. Good for them too.

Haha, "big time operator." As indicated above, I'm minor league. You Ferrari guys are the big time. If you think I am a **** talker over compensating for something else, so be it. Just thought the story was entertaining. Nothing more, nothing less.

Hey Doug, I apologize. I'm a little cranky today after having the inlaws in town over the weekend as my oldest graduated from 8th grade.

P.S. I sure as hell don't consider myself a "big time operator" just a big time passion for cars! :)

I don't know. The perspective I've taken on is sure you could get burned in your F360 by a '89 Civic hatchback. But, it's not like the Ferrari owner couldn't have afforded to go out and buy a civic and make it faster than that if he didn't want to. It's all a matter of preference. Some people like modding cars, some just like buying them and appreciating them for what they're are.

No problemo. I understand. I am probably stepping on toes with such a post. I would have linked over to the original thread, but I didn't want to start any cross board debates.

This post reminds me of stories I used to tell when I was envious of f-cars and just did not have the $ yet. Clearly anyone who has a 360 could have bought a TT p-car and modified it.

    Disclaimer:

These stories are not mine. I just heard someone talking about it and decided to share it with the world so I feel better. And surely if I had more sense than money I would have bought a TT, and then I too could be a big baller.

You got me. I an envious of F-Cars and cannot afford one so I made up and put this post on here to elevate myself above everyone who owns a Ferrari. Wow, so refreshing. I feel better already.

Actually, I just rushed out and bought the Audi TT because Audi are best and they win all the races and with my super secret audi high performance exhaust it will beat your Enzo hands down. I know this because Audi race car technology is tops and their street cars will beat anything especially with my highly modified race exhaust.

Truth be known, my only cars were hot wheels and 1960s slot racers before borrowing $ 20k from my mom today to by my Audi TT with race exhaust.
