Aloha...I remember hearing years ago that if you rub vaseline over your chrome or aluminium for long time storage it stops any oxidation by stopping contact with the air.....anyone know of this or any way to protect the surface of the metal??

vaseline is a petroleum distillate so it should work. just remember to take it off when done. my only concern is long term contact (yrs) due to it being a distillate, ie. corrosive. polishes work off the principle of eating away (chemical reaction) the oxidation and the use of petroleum distillates is what does it. possibly far to low of a concentration to be a problem.

Thorobred and Classic Cars magazine had a "Found" article years ago about a virtually new MG (TA,TC or TD) that was found in the corner of a warehouse sitting there for 20 years or thereabouts. All the chrome had been coated with vasiline and when wiped off looked factory new. Seems like quite a mess to deal with but apparently it works.
