This is exactly what concerned us when the pet food recall first hit the news. Not only does this affect companion animals, but the potential for human ramifications are staggering. There are a lot of murmurs out there about the Chinese corn/grain markets and our relationship with them. Typically, the Chinese have no restrictions for the use of GMO-developed grains and corns. It's widely believed that they are trying to "invade" our farming industry through the use of these GMO-based corns and wheats. The problem is, GMOs can contaminate traditional fields with only fractional components. Birds that have eaten the grains can shed seeds onto fields and spread them. Typically, the FDA finds itself in a situation where they can't reverse the situation, so instead they work with it.

Regardless of how far into the issue you care to look, there is no reason we should be purchasing Chinese foodstuffs.

That happened in Canada a couple of years ago. A farmer of the natural wheat {I believe} had GMO blown onto his field and was sued by the GMO grower for stealing his product and to add insult to injury the farmer couldn't sell his crop due to the contamination and his fields were no longer fit for natural growth.

Sort of like killer bees destroying honey bees at a fraction of the numbers.

We've been following this because of the pet end of the story. And with the food recall, numbers have been kept artificially low. Claims still cite the same 16 deaths, when the number is over 10,000. I'ts scary to think what will happen when this starts affecting people.

In a related topic, China has just sentenced their former Food n Drug Administrator to death for accepting briberies from drug/food addictives manufacturers and lack of oversights in their approval process.....Many think this is a result of the recent pressures and from the US food importers.

I wouldn't doubt it. I thought the same thing when I read it. I'm not the conspiracy-theory type, but the more you learn about issues like these the more you start suspecting everyone! There's a tendency to find a convenient culprit, create the appearance of action and then hope things blow over, that people will gradually forget about what happened and move onto the next Lindsey Lohan arrest. The manufacturers obviously want to deflect liability, but what is glossed over is the fact that they set themselves up for this to begin with through lack of oversite and testing.
