I am trying to remove the dome light/switch assembly from my coupe to replace the bulb. I can pry it down about a quarter inch but it will not come any further and when I try to push it back in the right side hangs down about a quarter inch. I'm afraid to pull on it in case I break something.
    Can anyone advise please.
    Thanks
    Alan

This happened to me last year.

There are two clips on the housing that slide over a plastic 'tab' (1 each side).

One of the plastic 'tabs' broke and the clip got jammed down inside the housing. This made the light hang down on one side.

I had to force (pry) the light out. This bends the clip over backwards (I was able to bend it back to it's original shape quite easily.

The only solutions are to either repair the broken 'tab' on the housing which holds the clip or buy a new housing.

    Hope this helps

That's not good news. I was very careful when prying down the left side and didn't hear or feel anything break. Some have said it's just a friction fit.

Can anyone who has done this advise me on how to go about removing this light without damage (or more damage)?
    Thanks

Thanks for that but I'm trying to remove the whole assembly not just the lens but the lens and switches housing as well.

    Alan,

The silly spring on the side of the light where the screwdriver is inserted that holds it against the mounting piece. On mine the spring was, I suspect, broken by the PO and the light assembly was held in with glue. In essence the spring which was normally a bent affair, had broken and was a simple straight spring. I had to open it a bit and then use a thin knife put through the opening to compress the spring to get it out to replace it with LED lights. You see how it goes, the light and switches portion should in theory just pull out..

If you break it today there is a solution nearby to you.. I've PM'd you...

Thanks Curt I managed to get something in there to close that spring and get the light down. That is a poor design. The clip is supposed to maintain a friction fit to keep the light in place but it's too short and if it is bent out enough it gets trapped behind the plastic of the main housing. I played with it a little and put some folded cardboard behind that flange of the main housing so that the clip pushes against it.
