100% agree with you, Jetstar are a budget airline, and their business model is based on a basic service. Having said that, the pilots and crew receive the same training as the mainline Qantas crew and their planes are well maintained.

I've flown a lot over the years with Jetstar be it to Bali/Singa or local, I prefer them to QANTAS and only once had an issue when at Maroochydore airport a flight was canceled and my own fault in that I didn't look at my phone re the cancellation text .............anyway got to stay another night at mates (FAB) old Queenslander on top of Buderim hill looking out to the Ocean enjoying a beer.

No, they were hotels, with 6 satellite bottle shops and 1,000s of poker machines.

That explains why they call the SC, the French riviera for poor people!

So why did they have on sit on the tarmac for 14 hours? Surely they could have been herded into a hangar or somewhere?

Have you ever been to Alice?

Not that easy to find somewhere to put 320 people whom have arrived unscheduled from overseas.

But, they were taken off the plane after 6-7 hours (not 14) while they waited for the replacement aircraft.

The situation would have been no different if the aircraft was from any other airline, including Qantas.

There would have been hours of discussion and planning between (but not limited to) local police, federal police and airport staff, some who I’m sure were on days off, about how to best to do it. All before the first person stepped foot off that aircraft.

Like Steve said, this wasn’t a planned arrival and they weren’t planning on hanging around.

Yep, happens here all the time also. I have never seen so many cancelled flights in the last 12 months here, the worst it's ever been.

Qantas keep blaming technical issues with the planes, but I reckon it's because they don't have enough bums to fill seats. Things are pretty quiet around here these days and it's not getting any better.

Supposed to be 2x flights a day here from Brisbane and Townsville, both morning and late afternoon. Most times these days it's only one of each and they blame technical issues with the plane and they fly in the next day. I call BS.

We had a plane here last week that was just about to land, but nope, Pilot said there was a technical issue with the plane and turned it around flew it back to Brisbane for repair lol

This happens every now and then also. Two of my FIFO workers on my crew missed their first day of work, they came to work the next day and told me about it.

We do have planes here that land that need repair. They normally just fly an engineer out on the next flight to inspect it and/or repair etc and it flies back out. I haven't seen a Qantas jet sit here for more than a day or two broken down.

Yes I have flown in to Alice and yes I get it would have been no different on any other airline, but surely there SHOULD be a plan in place for an “airline emergency” even if it’s just a tent on side of the runway...

There actually is a customs and immigration presence in Alice - 2 guys when I was there. Their main border work was keeping an eye on the various US military planes dropping by (3 to 4 days a week then) and the odd charter through Ayers Rock. Most of their work was immigration: Alice is full of people who over stay. I had a mate who coached one of the footy teams. In the lead up to the finals each year he would present immigration with a list of players from opposing teams he believed to be illegals. Suddenly, half the islanders in town were gone and he won consecutive titles!

I regard myself as having been successful in business and life ..

I know one thing I would NEVER wish to be involved in owning /running or substantial money tied up in an airline.

It amuses me how some can be so critical of an airline without understanding the many complex issues involved.

a little bit more involved than drawing a kitchen bench !

Absolutely, the best analogy I give my friends is the you can’t drive from Sydney to Melbourne for $100, how do you expect an airline to make a profit selling seats at that price.

The aviation industry is heavily regulated and expensive to operate. It’s not just the fuel costs and wages, there are landing fees, hotel costs for accommodation of crews, maintenance cost for aircraft, wages for engineer’s, spares for aircraft. As an example a standby altimeter costs $100K and and if it’s inoperable the aircraft can’t fly……….I would never invest in an airline.

what about when Kingfisher Airlines was running and the planes would land, the airport would not refuel them for credit and the passengers tipped in the money for the refuel:D.

I met Vijay Mallya, we were staying at Ayana in Bali and his daughter married there and had the reception, lots of ex-pats,Poms, and high-end society, we were introduced a few days before by the Jamaican manager of the resort and got invited. it was a fantastic wedding with music, food , and Champagne.

It's just that he never paid the resort the bill!

So you have something in common. [emoji41]

We went to Ayana on your recommendation. It was my first ever trip to Bali.

They were still talking about you when we got there. Missing goats and monkeys apparently.
