    Hello Fine FChatters members..
This is DJDM looking for information regarding "Foreign Vehicle/Travel Insurance"...
After much of research... and getting nowhere, I have come to the conclusion that the answer to my dilemma has to be here .... coming from one of you.... !!!!
This is the situation.... I am planning a trip 3/4 months to Argentina/Chile/Brazil starting in November...
The trip include taking my HONDA NRX "Rune" bike (I’m flying in.. the bike goes by boat..) to Buenos Aires and of course I will like to have the bike fully insure....
Unfortunately the company ALLSTATE (USA) presently insuring the bike will not cover the motorcycle outside the USA/Canada territory.
Does anyone out there knows or have any information regarding any USA or non USA company who may do the coverage while the vehicle is "in transit" traveling...??????????
The coverage I am looking for is known as " Foreign Vehicle Insurance"..... I was able to locate couple co. in Europe but unfortunately their don't do business here in USA.... only in Europe for European citizen/vehicles traveling abroad or for vehicles " in transit" in European soil.
If anybody knows anything, I would really appreciate letting me know ASAP.
Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to let me know.
    Guys.... THANKYOUUUUU
    Grazie... Gracias.... Merci....
    DJDM

When are you leaving? Are you really sure you want to do that ? It may be a lot easier to rent a bike down there and save yourself a HUGE hassle

I would go through AAA as they are connected w the Argentina Club Automobile or ACA. I think ACA has a branch called Touring and maybe they can help you insure it.

BUt let me give you a heads up right now. The Cops are very corrupt down there & a foreign plate is like a beacon that screams " I have $$$, caome pull me over & get a juicy bribe"

You will be pulled over constantly & have to bribe Cops to avoid having your bike impounded where of course it will be stripped or stolen

SO , like I said before, youre a lot better off just renting 1 down there

    Sorry to burst your bubble

    WH

    Hi William,
    Thank you for your reply.
BUBBLE bursting is not allowed .... it's OK man.
I am planning on leaving on the 2nd or 3rd of November.
I am aware of your comments regarding the "cops"..... I lived in that country for many years...many years ago....
I go there several times a year; have most of my family leaving there + other things..
Well even thou the idea of renting cross my mind.... it is not easy as it sound.... first of all .. it is very expensive.... bike rentals are more expensive than cars..... it will probably be around $ 2500/3000 a month.... cost me much less than that to have my bike shipped there...... in my opinion not worthed.
    Car rentals ( small… really small..) are going for $ 300 to 400 a week… not the same…
For the bribing part... first they going to have to catch me... got it...!! and if they do witch I doubted... it would probably cost me a cup of coffee or lunch .. maybe.., beside, that is on the mayor cities... which I am not planning to spend much time to begin with... the country, the mountains is what I like..
As for the AAA.. or ACA... I will tell the guys from BMW if it anything they can do.
I have been all over the world already... so there is nothing new for me, of course SAmerica is in a different category...
    I do appreciate your concerns.
I e-mail the BMW motoclub in Argentina yesterday; hopefully they'll know something. They seems to be the most organized club.... could not find a HONDA one.
Where you ever down in Argentina...????? where did you get "that" idea about the cops...
Should I wrap this whole thing I will sent picts...
    Thanks again....

One time when William was in Argentina, he ran out of cash, got pulled over, and had to "play catch" with some of the local police :)
