Deal is done picking up Thursday or Friday. 1982 BB512i One owner since new from Switzerland. Got the vehicle in Montreal after looking and trying out 5 different 512's in the last month and a half. Had to get my wife a new house in order for her to take the pill on the F-Car but finally I have the rig that I wanted since 1982 when I worked in a lumber yard in Montreal East and saw the one that the owner of the business beside the Lumber yard owned. Got sidetracked while I got my dream boat last year so now it was time for my dream car. Thanks for all the help from very knowledgeable members on this forum helping me do my due diligence. G.L. What I was told is that they were done at Ferrari with the extra bolstering in it. It is also the first one I see with the fog lights closer-in to let space for air intake on the outside of the fog lights ducting air to the front brake, I was also told this was done at the factory. I have not verified this but all is done impecably, the ducting you see with tie-wraps in the front suspension picture definitaly looks like it has been at least re done recently.
Hi........ Magnificent machine !! Brake rotors need some attention. See major amounts of rust and pad chatter marks on the rotors. Would not drive the car "at speed" without a brake system service. Flush the old brake fluid and "bleed" the system carefully too. Enjoy the "rocket ship" !! Frank...............23005 www.masiarz.net/bb_resource
The only few things about those seats is it makes the entrance into the vehicule even more gymnactics for my fat rear-end, once in place however ther is no sidways movement whatsoever. The brake rotors have been addressed, car had sat for a few month and was brought from Switzerland in February so I am sure the salt air dod not help. Thank you all for the good wishes and again thanks all with the tremendous help with widenning my knowledge of these cars.
Gorgeous!! Congratulations - I'm jealous and happy for you at the same time. A true exotic and a very cool '80s car to boot. Jon
Congratulations. I miss my Box !!! She has been in the shop since late February. Just a regular engine out (cam belts) major service. I suppose I am o.k. with the wait ? Everyone says this guy does superb work. Congratulations on your Boxer. Enjoy it.
The Car can not be imported in the US before January 07. My intention was to register it to my property in Canada and then bring it to the US for controlled lenght of time, to be within the law, in the interim. I had found an insurer comfortable with that however a little expensive. This seems however to be exposing people invovled in this deal to unwanted liabilities. This car might be unacessable for me then. Very unfortunate and disapointing it is a sweet car... the search might press on.
Jeezuz, man, are you saying the deal is NOT done after all? If not, too bad, because that interior with that many kilometers on the odo is unusual AFAIK. It had dawned on me that the consensus is that no more Boxers can be imported into the U.S., ever, but then you say that it can come in no earlier than Jan 07, so maybe the law has changed? I would suggest that if you get a BBi with Boxer trim, consider painting over it. It makes the lines come together more harmoniously, IMO. If this deal falls through, one broker here in California that I recommend is the widely known Brandon Lawrence at 650 558 8255. He can probably find what you want. I bought a car from him and would do business with him again, but I am not shopping because I am happy with what I have. Good luck with whatever your decision. Boxers are special, no?
Once the car is 25 years old the DOT and EPA regs do not apply anymore... I guess it qualifies the car as a classic and then you can import it. I agree with your deal that the full red ones look better but they are not original like that only some of the last few cars in 84 came out full red from the factory. Most like that were repainted when the sidemarker required for DOT conformity where taken off the cars and patched up. From what I learned in my shopping. Also the front bumper lights also usually are casuallties when the bumpers are reinforced for DOT compliance. Notwithstanding I am working on another one that has US docs on it. Here's a pic. Full red also on that one. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Not true..... I have a copy of the original Ferrari "factory invoice" for my car (#46189) from April 1983 and it lists the color as: "Rosso Fer 300/6 = without black bottom." The factory definitely painted Boxers in all one color, when requested by a customer. Mine also has a "leather headliner" option listed on the invoice too. Gary
GLH ,out of curiousity, why are you looking at overseas cars ? Are the cars less for the quality of car ? It seems like importing would be a hassle.
Your car seems to be a later model and as I said they did some later on so more power to you... The ones I am looking at are in the 42xxx kind of numbers.
I spent over a year looking for a Boxer. Almost bought an Ebay Boxer from someone with the ID Foxyroxy AKA zachs something or other, probably would have been a mistake, ended buying an '83 from someone in California with a 49 state car. He is going to sail to the South Pacific with his wife, selling everything except his house. Great driver. Carobo did the PPI, and is doing some modifications for me. Be patient. The car meant for you will show up. You don't need to deal with the overseas issues and expense.
