    LG Super Racing Weekend
    June 25-26-27

Britain’s first major international of the season is here at Donington Park, bringing two of the premier championships of the sport’s governing body, the FIA, to the Leicestershire circuit, amid an array of top-class action that also includes two races counting to the British F3 Championship.

The European Touring Car Championship is currently developing into a ‘shoot-out’ for supremacy between Alfa Romeo and BMW, both marques having enjoyed double success in the opening rounds – the series is based around two sprint races either side of a ‘half-time’ break for service and refuelling, the second race featuring a reverse grid, with the pole starter of the first race taking the final starting position for the second.

Andy Priaulx heads the hopes of British success in the two races – he has already tasted the winner’s champagne this season in the BMW Great Britain car and is eager for me, though he faces a tough challenge from former British champion Gabriele Tarquini who spearheads the Alfa challenge. SEAT also feature in the races, as do Honda and Ford – they are well on the pace, and that promises exciting Sunday afternoon action, at 14.45 and 15.45.

The touring car races follow on from the three hour, two driver, endurance race counting the International GT Championship race which bring together a variety of expensive, high powered ‘Le Mans’ type sportscars – Ferrari expect to dominate, but they have been beaten already this season, by the Saleen marque, and that makes them even hungrier for Donington glory. Porsches will also figure prominently in the action, which is equally about tactics, race strategies and speed. The GT races starts as 11.20 and follows on from the morning’s opening race, the Ferrari Modena Challenge.

Rounding off the Sunday action are two single seater races, counting to the Formula Renualt V6 Eurocup and the British F3 Championship.

Friday action is devoted to free practice and qualifying for all classes, while Saturday provides a day-long mix of qualifying and races, with championship action for Formula Renault 2000 Eurocup, Formula Renault V6 Eurocup, Ferrari Modena Challenge and the first of two race counting to the British F3 Championship, in which the son of a famous father, Nelson Piquet, is the hot-shot for the crown.
