and usually not above 80 degrees. If I am still hot with the windows down, it seems too hot to drive the car. I just don't see driving the 430 with the windows up and AC on (or any pure sports car). Live in PA.

Also, I am somehow totally paranoid that driving in relative "heat" is bad for the car. Is this just stupid? Please advise...

PS never left in the sun for long either

I drive a 360, not a 430. I, too, try never to leave it sitting outside in the heat. However, I drive it all summer long in 100+ weather. The AC works great, and the song of the engine remains strong and beautiful. Also, the engine cooling seems very efficient. I never have a problem with water or oil temps.

It has yet to get up to 85F here this summer, and we have very little humidity...so it is not a problem.

The car is made to run for hours in high heat at the racetrack. I see no problem with closing the windows and cranking on the A/C. but I would rather drive with the top down.

Are you serious? PA doesn't see more then 2-3months of good weather all year and you are worried its too hot. That is ridiculous, are you aware of the temps the mechanical parts of the car see??

I havn't taken my 360 out during the day here in Texas since we havn't seen it below 100 for a month.

Driving in the heat is not going to damage or hurt the car, but it does add stress while driving.

better to drive it at night when it cools off.

drive the car, unless it's 120+ degrees and you're redlining the thing every 5 seconds you will be fine. And to be honest even in the aforementioned situation i bet you'd still be fine.

+1. These cars are so much hotter then the outside temperatures that I don't see any difference in the gauge temps when it's 70 or 95 degrees. I'm pretty sure that it won't have any real long term effects accept for maybe replacing AC components.

Driving from DC to Atlantic City and back earlier this week. It was 95 degrees the whole way, and I drove with the top down and AC on. It was great, and neither oil nor water temp was ever a concern. I'd like to think the F430 isn't fragile, as I bought it with the intention of driving it. I've had it a month and put 800 miles on it . . . More than the previous owner averaged in year!

Well, thanks. It's prob true that WE perceive the difference between 75 and 85, but the car may not.

And you are right about the weather in PA, but I tell people that my sports cars are spring/fall cars and don't drive them in the heat of summer. Kinda like golf.....spring/fall. lol

You are being paranoid.. I put 32000 Florida miles on my 360 Spider and now have 28000 on my 430. Absolutely no hot weather issues, nada, none.

Just drive and enjoy the damn thing. They are only cars, special, but still just cars.

I'm not too fond of driving on extremely hot days, either. I like driving with the windows down, but very hot/humid days are not ideal for open-air driving, IMO. Sure, putting the AC on with the windows down helps a lot, but it's just not as enjoyable as driving on a nice 65-70 degree day. That said, the hot weather doesn't keep me from using the car, though I don't use it quite as much as when it's cooler. If needed, my car's AC does blow cold and with the windows up it keeps the cabin comfortably cool.

Similarly, I don't use the car as much in extremely cold winter weather. It's kinda hard getting excited about driving the car on a windy, 20 degree day. I usually wait for a 35-40 degree "nice" day and then take the car out.

If a crappy Saturn can drive with relative ease in 100 degree heat, your Ferrari will be fine. The components are wellllllllll over what the outside temperature is. I get paranoid with expensive things too, but drive and be happy knowing that this is not a problem!

Don't move to Vegas. On a normal day we have 80 degrees.

I drive with it with the top down and the AC on all the time in temps of 110. Just turn on the AC on full and enjoy the drive.

My cars are in Phoenix where its been 105-115 lately...I miss them and was thinking of heading down there to drive for a few days (I kid...my GF is there and I need to visit her...yeah, that's it)...I've never been in over 100 and I've never driven the Maser with the top up or the CS with the windows up...so I was wondering if it would be as fun with the AC on and the windows/top up...guess I'll find out...

Now...someone tell me storing your cars in a garage that must be 100ish all the time is no problemo and I'll be very happy!

Perhaps you should move to Colorado. Just about everybody else in Texas has.

We have the opposite problem as it cools off at night and you may have to turn on your heater and/or put the top up at night. And then there is the wildlife. Deer and elk may wander across the roads without warning, not to mention the hoards of scantily clad nubile young women who bar hop in town. Hit one of those and you will be eating your escargot and caviar in the Pitkin County jail. Maybe you'll see Charlie Sheen there too.

Seriously guys? Sometimes y'all just crack me up!

    85 degrees? 100 degress?

Manufactures routinely take vehicles out to places like Death Valley, where temperatures reach 130 degrees +, park them up with the radiator ports facing directly into an obstruction (like rock face or boulder), turn the AC down to max-low and leave them ticking over till the fuel tank runs empty!

Truth be told I don't know if Ferrari go to Death Valley to test but I'd be pretty damn sure that they do some serious testing and that ambient temperature of 85~100 Fahrenheit would most definitely be significantly lower than safe operating temperature. Sure wouldn't there be disclaimers all over the car if it wasn't capable?

It was 115 in Phoenix last weekend... my 360 ran great.

Dude, you're worried about 85? Seriously?

Don't be. Drive that car this weekend. I don't care if it's hot, raining or snowing. It'll be fine.

Guess moving to Arizona is out of the question.

There are 6 proving grounds in Arizona. Plus one retired proving grounds. Every manufacturer runs heat tests. A lot are here in AZ with the rest in CA. Either a manufacturer has their own proving grounds, or if they don't they lease time at someone else's. I covered them all in my AZ book!
